Overview
More
These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

This was our third visit and it won't be our last. The planning, design and commitment is honourable. Nowhere else can you see that combination of color, texture and depth in a garden. We had a tasty (but expensive) lunch in the dining room to...More

We recently had a spring visit to the Butchart Gardens and it was as enjoyable as my ate summer. Just a beautiful place to go and even though it was initially raining the umbrellas which were readily available weren't needed for long. Plenty of clean...More

I'm an avid gardener. I own 28 acres in upstate New York, 20 acres of woods with trails and the rest lawn, a pond, and gardens. I often visit famous gardens when I travel such as Longwood in Penn. I've never seen any as spectacular...More

If you take your time you can spend hours here. There is lots to see and it is absolutely beautiful. It is kind of expensive but worth doing at least once.

This was a great evening visit to the gardens. It wasn't crowded at all and was beautiful in the evening. There are lights and beautifully lit fountains. It was also light most of the time we were at the gardens. Our bus driver Bob was...More

I visited on Mother's Day and was a little apprehensive as I was afraid it would be packed. It was ok. The gardens are so big that I didn't have much of an issue with too many people. The Sunken Garden was unexpected and the...More

I have not been the Butchard Gardens in 25 years but returning was like a new experience. The gardens are beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the walk as we did the gardens twice. The plants, trees and natural landscape provides a wonderful combination of flow...More

Beautiful. Peaceful. Quiet. I am traveling alone this week and was ok the fence about visiting Butchart Gardens. I'm so glad that I did, however. Amazing.

Granted, it was Victoria Day weekend, but there were too many people. It would have been better if the "no selfie sticks" rule was enforced and people encouraged to not block the path for too long while taking pictures. The gardens were beautiful, but the...More

This was my second visit and I still loved it! Looking back at my photos from my first visit in April 2016 and my second one in May this year, many flowers were different and of course, the weather was fairly better this time around....More

I was there on April 1st and the tulips were in their glory, it is hard to say at this point 26 April but we’ve had a very cold spring which could prolong blooming time.

Yes it is beautiful at any time of the year. Spring will be especially nice and the cruise passengers won’t be there until later in the month.
