Overview
More
These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National Historic Site of Canada, started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

I think this is one of the most beautiful gardens I have ever visited. It is simply beautiful! My cruise stopped in Victoria and we had to rush to get there, but it was worth the trouble. The landscape is beautiful, especially on the Sunken...More

The gardens a a fair distance from Downtown Victoria, we cycled back which was a great way to do the trip, spent a few hours in the gardens, tour guides not allowed so you do it at your own pace. Very informative great layout. Well...More

Third visit, and the gardens are as beautiful and dog-friendly as always -- though, I must say, the prices have gone way up in the past decade (current summer admission for adults: $32.10 CDN plus tax!). Plan to go early in the morning -- the...More

In 2004, their 100th anniversary, the family owned Butchart Gardens were designated a National Historic Site of Canada. So even with only a few days in Vancouver, we were determined to see it. We could have booked various tours on-line, cost effective and practical for...More

This was our second visit to Butchart Gardens, the first being almost 13 years ago. It was no less amazing the second time than the first, though the crowds and price have increased a bunch! On a sunny day there is probably not a more...More

Wow! very inspiring and beautiful. The sunken garden is just amazing for its thoughtfulness to repurposing an area. You will not be disappointed.

We visited in the mid 1980s and again in early August 2016 and Butchart Gardens was even prettier than we remembered. As with all places of quality it is definitely busier than 30 some years ago but they had more to see and it seemed...More

Definitely an amazing place with nothing but beautiful flowers and plants, I walk around this gigantic garden and wonder how they can keep it going year round and how many gardeners they must have on hand. Everywhere I go there is some kind of flower...More

Amazing gardens. Well worth the cost and time. It will take at least an hour. The carousel is a fun part for all ages. Gift shop and food are on the grounds.

we will be visiting the gardens off a cruise in the evening from 8pm till 11pm at the end of June 2017- will it still be too light out for the lights to take effect on the pathways and gardens. Will it even be worth the expense to go at this time of night?

I have not been there at night, so I would not be able to tell you. However, I figure it would still be light for a lot of the time then.
