To get here, you have to take a short ferry across Upper Waterton Lake to the trailhead, and allow plenty of time to get back to the departing ferry. The hike goes up a valley to Crypt Lake and has some switchbacks. The 'crux' of...More

This is a great hike but plan an early start to make sure you're back to catch the boat back to Waterton. If heights bother you you may want to skip this one, but it's perfectly safe. There is a great cave scramble that opens...More

This is truly a stunning hike. Only accessible by water it weeds out the crowds. We travelled in the shoulder season (june). At this time there was a water shuttle available only twice a day to the trailhead. You take the shuttle for about $20...More

We did this hike in September 2016 ... The overal hike was not hard for the kids but I wouldn't recommend the climb to the lake..many people I talked to said they took their kids on that hike.. That must have been years ago...there is...More

This was my first hike and it did not disappoint! It was a long warm day, but it was not too strenuous over all. We had a large group in the boat on the way over, but were generally alone on the trail. We did...More

First saw this on the internet and just knew it was a bucket list hike. A boat takes you to the trail head where you start the 18km return hike. The trail was in awesome condition and the hike was nothing short of spectacular. I...More

Not too difficult, but a great variety of terrain and experiences. Catch the early boar across, and take lunch with you. The ladder, tunnel, waterfall, and lake as well as forest, scree slope and cliff exposure are a unique combination for a great day hike...More

It was certainly a decent hike but not worth the work for the lake. If you're pressed for time and can only do one or two hikes, choose Carthew-Alderson or Akamina. Bears Hump too is worth the effort.

I've hiked a LOT. And this was my favorite hike of all time. Don't be swayed by the distance, elevation gain, ladder, tunnel, or narrow ledge and cable. It's all doable and very very worth it. My husband has an inordinate fear of heights, and...More

September 14, 2016 My brother and I caught the 10:00 a.m. boat ride to the Crypt Lake Trail. It was a beautiful day, sunny and calm, about 55 degrees. The Fall colors were Spectacular! You can definitely hear the waterfalls echoing thru the canyons long...More

Hello! we're planning on going towards the end of August and we're getting there the day before. If we'd like to get the earlier departure, should we purchase our tickets for the ferry then or are we safe to wait until the day of? Thanks!

Does anyone know where we could camp off grid in the Waterton area?

I really want to do this hike but all of my friends have already done it and I can get anyone to do it again. I heard that it's a pretty busy trail, so is it safe to assume I could hike it solo in August and still be safe from bear encounters? I have bear spray and all, I just have never hiked on my own. Thanks!

I'm thinking of doing it if I plan to come over in July. Flying from Sydney.
