First, when I checked the map location for this attraction was wrong. This park is a short walk SE from the train station. Along the main road there are small vendors selling goods and snacks on the weekends (in good weather).

Tickets are 50RMB, though on slow days there is not always a person selling tickets and you can just walk in. A temple complex has existed on this site for a long time, but the current version was rebuilt after WWII. The temples are large and well maintained (bright colors). Contained in the main one is a larger sitting Buddha. This is also home to the White Pagoda (this park is also referred to as White Pagoda Park). There is also a nice fish pond on the site. A nice place to spend an afternoon or just hang out.

Went there on a Sunday evening. The park is pleasant and there is an interesting group of western style buildings built by the Japanese as dormitories for railway workers during their occupation of Manchuria. In front of the park and temple is a square with a gate with multiple arches and stone lions. On Sunday evenings in Summer the locals meet to dance, and socialise, and there is a small market. The level of competing activities is overwhelming and surreal, with dancing styles from hip-hop to acrobatic ballroom dancing. Very entertaining! (Not many foreigners visit here, so you will attract some friendly attention.)

No matter the fact that its almost always more crowded here but still the overall area with temples and pagoda as well as a park is a nice place for a few hours walk.

Enjoy a walk or stroll around the tower to enjoy the awe of how it was put together. The carving is lovely as well and the scenery is something you can just enjoy and bask in the quietness and serenity.

The White Pagoda of Liaoyang is one of the most impressive ancient monuments in the northern part of China. A 70 metre high tower dating back to the second half of the 12th century, this thirteen-storey brick pagoda has survived the last 800 years in surprisingly good shape. Octagonal in shape, the pagoda has Buddha figures on all eight sides, each one flanked by two towering attendants. Angelic beings known as asparas drift overhead. The tower is set besides a carp pond, which was all but frozen over at the time if our midwinter visit. There are other temple and monastic buildings nearby, though none have the great antiquity of this ancient tower.

White Tower Park is a a gem hidden in a busy city. In winter, the frozen lake in the park is kept clear for skaters. There is a huge area by a beautiful pagoda that has an ice pad the size of an NHL hockey rink, surrounded by a speed skating oval, and nearby is another skating area reserved for kids and new skaters practicing their skills. The pagoda is a great backdrop for pictures of skating and hockey in China.
