Amazing time share with Thabo. Full of knowledge and enthusiasm! The caves are like descending into another world. Would recommend this to family’s with slightly older kids as dark and can be claustrophobic at parts!

We decided to take a leisurely drive and landed up at the Sterkfontein Caves. There was good COVID safety measures. We were unaware that we needed to book online to visit the caves.
We then decided to have something to nibble at the restaurant. The service was superb and Khumo our waitress was truly helpful.
I recommend we as South Africans visit our lovely places..
Hope that our South African Tourism sector can keep all places of interest so clean and tidy.

Beautiful caves.
Our tour guide was very friendly and answered most of our questions.
I enjoyed this tour, this is definitely a place you should visit if you are looking for adventure and also you are interested in geography and archeology.
The temperature drops in the caves so wear something warm.
A great way to spend the weekend!

If you want to open your mind and ejoy history about man kin, please visit this place. And the tour guide is excellent in their explanation and know their stuff.

You will also learn a bit of science, rock formations water flow and earthing. Please wear closed shoes, jeans if you have because at some point you will be crawling , going on steps. Dresses and loose clothes are not ideal and dont bring your favorite shoes here. Take it like mountain climbing.

And please don't bring your under 10 kids. It is hectic!

I brought friends here to show them something that I am very proud of as I do with ALL my foreign visitors! We were herded through the caves in a group of 60, the guide had NO CONTROL of the group and didn’t enforce rules to preserve the site at all, he told the crowd the rules in rather hushed tones so half the group didn’t even hear! He didn’t even know the basics of the site like the internal temperature which is 18 degrees Celsius he claimed it was 15. We waited AGES because of the size of the groups that were being shoved into the caves and having to move through crawl spaces takes MUCH LONGER in larger groups. Groups of 10 pax with more guides would create a much more enjoyable and respectful situation where we don’t have things like 60 torches all shining up at the roof which promotes the growth of algae and damages a world heritage site! Also, how can you allow visitors to a cave site in if they are wearing flip flops and slippers, it is dangerous, not to mention people carrying 2 year olds without hard hats! As a PROUD South African, I am EMBARRASSED and SHOCKED at the all round lack of respect and pride in such an amazing heritage site and a national treasure!!!!!!!!

Was a very nice trip to these caves. About 45 mins from Pretoria. Takes about an hour to do the guided tour. Very good food and toilet facilities. The tour guide made the trip - he was very good.
Nice place to sit and eat lunch in a very well set up eatery. Safe parking is available.
The only down side is the rampant evolutionary diatribe that cane with the tour, but I’m used to filtering that out. Hehe.

Visited Sterkfontein caves and did not know what to expect - tours were at regular intervals, our guide was knowledgeable & funny & we learnt interesting facts along our trip. It’s well lit but there are some bits where crawling, bum shuffling is required but it all adds to the adventure. We had fabulous coffee at the coffee shop before setting off.

So informative touring these caves. Make sure you wear comfortable, that you would use for sport. My wife and I went down with our parents in their 70s - challenging, but they made it - my dad is a history buff so he loved it.

Excellent, knowlegable young guide who was obviously passionate about her job and the caves are well worth the visit. Our guide coped very well with a very young, noisy child. Perhaps management should reconsider the lower age limit and discourage under 5's into the caves.

Good tour into the caves, knowledgeable and nice tour guide. You will go 60m down into the cool caves, about 17C down there.
Admire the formations, one that looks like an elephant. Be prepared to crouch down and walk 200 stairs back up. Worth seeing.
The famous Mrs Ples however was discovered near the top of the cave.
