About
The Da Kų Culture Centre is an innovative cultural facility located in Dakwäkäda (Haines Junction) in the southern part of Canada's Yukon Territory. Da Kų (Our House) celebrates the culture and traditions of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN) Dän (people). The centre is a teaching, curatorial and interpretive facility, providing programming directed to our Citizens as well as the general public. Da Kų honours our language and stories, our strong connection to the land, and our living culture. Da Kų also connects the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations Dän to the wider community of Dakéyi, our southern Yukon and northwestern British Columbia homeland. These links are illustrated by the other agencies housed in our facility - Parks Canada's Kluane National Park Visitor Centre, with its feature exhibits, and Yukon Government's Visitor Information Centre, which showcases pieces from the Yukon Permanent Art Collection. No admission is charged for visiting Da Kų. We recommend a couple hours be allowed for visiting the centre.

Helpful staff happy to share their extensive knowledge of the terrain and high-quality videos about the history, flora and fauna made this a stop worth making. The building is beautiful too., not all sections are open to the public though due to covid 19.

Make time to visit this small native cultural center. It describes the life of the people in the Da Ku First Nation. Lots of info on how they negotiated land rights with the Canadian government. Talking with the Program Director made the visit extra special.

The First Nations cultural center and the Kluane N.P. visitors center share the same building. We spent over an hour there. Nice tour of the cultural center.

We stopped for a brief stop and saw mountain goats on the adjacent tall hills.
The centre was excellent showing both physical and cultural aspects of the local region. The centre also had many fine exhibits and publications that complemented the overall scheme.

The Da Ku Cultural Centre was built by the Champagne Aishihik First Nation, which is the indigenous nation whose traditional territory lies in and around the Haines Junction area. The cultural centre is conveniently co-located with the Yukon territory's visitor information centre, and Parks Canada's information centre, so it's one stop shopping!

In addition to some permanent and some temporary exhibitions, there are often knowledgable staff from the First Nation on hand to provide information. There is also a gift shop with high quality handicrafts, including beautiful beaded moccasins, made by local First Nation members.

The cultural centre has ample free parking, good washrooms, and is not far from restaurants and hotels in Haines Junction. Not to be missed!

We were looking for some info on some trails around the area and went in to look around. Very good and full of info. Great displays for children along with adults. Nice little gift shop with a lot of nice art inside. We went on a Thursday and they had a farmers market in the parking lot with lots of great baking and fresh garden veggies.

Though a good concept, this cultural center is not really fleshed out as there are a few exhibits, and little else. It occupies the same building as two other centers, and might not therefore get the focus that it deserves. IT is nonetheless worth looking around while in Haines Junction.

If you cant go into the mountains, this AMAZING visitor center will have the Kluane and its history come to you.
Run by Parks Canada, it is one of the better Info Centers i have been to: large, bright, good staff, beautifully designed with the center piece art hanging of the translucent faces simply amazing and original, slow clap to the artist!
Great informative history on Mt.Logan and climbing in the Kluane with cool 3D topo map of the area. A member of a climbing expedition for Mt.Logan from Spain, was staying in Whitehorse so having his knowledge about their climb come first, then a trip out that way to Haines Junction was a great combination.
Don't miss it! Worth the drive to see such grande peaks.
