We did the 2 hours"Deep Fjord" tour of Howe Sound on the speedboat. Really fun! Stops briefly to view/pics of bald eagles, seals and many unusual bird species. Our guide was great & fun (not too much talking/info; emphasis was on the fun)

We had booked a trip to Vancouver by way of VIA RAIL in July 2009 and that is pretty much all my kids and hubby knew about what was in store for this adventure we were going on… I was trying to make it as big of a surprize as I could.
After arriving in Vancouver on the train (best way to travel through the mountains without having to worry about driving and still being able to see all the scenery one can), we hit out hotel for a minute then went off on our Harbour Cruise. Immediately after that enjoyable time, we hopped on a city bus (which was something our kids had never been on before) and head out to Horseshoe Bay. Nobody knew what was in store until we walked to Seawell’s Marina and signed in for the Seawell’s Sea Safari.

If you want just one excellent adventure while in Vancouver – I would definitely recommend scheduling in a sea safari – and if you have kids….they will totally love it! This was the best 2 hour tour I have ever been on. We saw so many beautiful things while on this tour but the thing our kids loved the best was the speedy pontoon boats we travelled in. We got sprayed ,we bounced with the waves, we turned this way, then that way! What a hoot of a good time. Everyone was fitted with a floatation suit which was warm thank goodness – it was a bit chilly and certainly damp on this tour but it was one of the best highlights on our trip to Vancouver – we saw animals on the hillsides, sealions sunning themselves on rocks, tonnes of birds, beautiful homes, a stunning scenic lighthouse, and so much more.
I hope after reading this review, you consider going on one of Seawell’s sea safaris….what an amazing time!

FYI We had purchased 2 - See Vancouver 3 day Adult Passes (seevancouvercard.com) using Airmiles, as well as a Vancouver Entertainment Coupon book which both made this tour and a few others very reasonably priced for our crew. Also, If you are looking for more fun things to do with your teens in Vancouver, I will be posting our top three things we did on our 3 day Adventure!

Love the rides and the introduction to the 31 islands that BC has. Each individuals gets a tele-tubby look alike suit as your personal floatation device for safety and to keep yourself dry.

Love our guide and the couple of donut turns that makes the ride pretty exciting. We get to see quite a number of sea lions and their pups resting. Quite an enjoyable ride and adventure as compare to the boring bus ride to Britannia otherwise.

It cost approximately CAD75 for the hour ride though.

Have taken similar rides before but I will enjoy more if there are couple more spins, donuts in the entire ride for the thrill factor.

The sailors at the command are the least respectful of the area. They ignore basic rules of navigation. In one outing the boat manage to almost ran over two kayaks, cut another boat against the small island with a lighthouse, and almost capsize a small boat at anchor that was peacefully fishing. they motored at full blast by the islands and rocks where the resident seals bask in the sun sending mothers and cubs in the water. If you do not mind associating with an accident in wait of happening that is fine, if not they are likely better way to enjoy this beautiful area.

Howe Sound north of Vancouver is one of the most scenic spots in the world. But, not when you're zooming by in a RIB driven by captain "Mad Man" Darren. I particularly didn't like his hot-dogging for the girls on the beach at Lions Bay! If you're into wild high-speed 360 degree turns, to the point where you puke, then this is the tour for you. It wasn't for my son and I!

Our highlight of our Vancouver trip was an afternoon Jet boating around Howe Sound. Even though it rained part of the time, it was a real blast! We were well protected and insulated in our suits from the wet, rain and the elements.
We saw lots of seals, bald eagles and other interesting wild life. Could not recommend this place enough. We were picked up from our downtown hotel and taken here, suited up and given goggles and at the end we were driven back to our hotel by Darren. He was very informative and a great guide.

Being a quadriplegic and not having any upper body strength, I was a bit hesitant to try the Sea Safari. I been skydiving, hot-air ballooning, dune bashing in the desert, and lots more and am always willing to try thrilling excursions. I am so glad I did. With the help of my friend and Darren, I was tied in to the back seat of the speedboat since it was the least bumpy being at the back. Thanks to Megan, this was one of the best and funnest experiences ever. We got to do donuts in the water, speed down with little bumps and even got to slow down for pictures. I been to 20 countries in the past 6 years and who needs to travel abroad when we have something this exciting to do so close to home. This was a must-do attraction and everyone in the area must try this and support a great local company like Sewell's Marina!

Take teenagers and let them sit up front. It’s a great thrill for them. Dry suits provided. A little pricey but worth it. Spectacular scenery. If you get lucky you’ll ride a B.C. Ferry wake.

The staff there are wonderful and friendly. The Marina is located next to B.C.Ferry Terminal, in the village of Horseshoe Bay. You can park your vehicle in the Marina's parking lot for $10/day. There are restaurants and some shops close by.
After you check in, you are given orange suits to wear, which act as life jackets, it will keep you warm as well.
After a short briefing from your guide, he was fantastic, you get to board the vessel, that's where the fun begins!
You pass by beautiful scenery along the coast of West Vancouver. We made our way into Coal Harbor, passing underneath Lions Gate Bridge. The views of the Vancouver skyline, Stanley Park and the north shore mountains were fabulous. We waited there for the nine o'clock cannon to fire, before making our way around Stanley Park and into English Bay, to view the "Honda Celebration of Light" fireworks display.
Our guide anchored the boat close to the boundary set around the fireworks barge. We had front row seats to an amazing fireworks show put on by team Australia. I've viewed the fireworks from various parts of the city before, but this was by far the best way to do so!
Some parts of the inlet were choppy, on the way back to the marina. My son and daughter were sitting in the front row of the boat, that"s where you really feel the waves and the choppiness of the ocean. They both loved the ride back. As we sailed further away from the city lights, the night skies were being illuminated by the vast array of stars.
This was an amazing adventure, thanks to the staff at Sewell's Marina.

Getting out on the water off the coast of Vancouver is a magical place. With the ocean, mountain and city landscapes you can really appreciate the majesty of this part of the world.

We recently took the Deep Fjord tour up Howe Sound from Horseshoe Bay. Guests wear a survival suit ride on a hard bottomed Zodiac. (The survival suits come in very large sizes. Members of our group are over 6'4" and over 300lbs and Sewell's had suits that fit them. There were a number of tiny Asian tourists so they obviously had small ones too.)

The guide was very knowledgeable. We went into several small "bays" or inlets to see wildlife, flora and fauna up close. We saw lots of birds and harbour seals.

It was a great thing to do on a hot day but would be just as enjoyable if it turned out to be a cooler day.
