Located inside the Royal Thai Air Force Wing 5 airbase, this beach and surrounding area is wonderful. When you enter the base from the end of SalaCheep road, as a foreigner you are required to enter your name and passport details to an air force MP situated just to the left inside of the gate. Scooter or motorbike riders are required to wear a helmet at all times while riding within the base. After a short ride one passes over the runway of the base (barricaded by MPs if a plane is in vicinity landing or taking off) Past the golf course and the base hotel you come to the main beach area which offers awesome scenery. During the weekdays there are not many people on the beach but the weekends can become very busy with bus loads coming in from Bangkok/Hua Hin and areas. There are plentiful food stalls available across the road from the beach under covered areas away from the sun/heat. Thankfully the Air Force control the beach area and is mainly free from the usual litter left behind by some beach goers.
Visitors should be sure to visit the historical park area to see the friendly gently Dusty Langur monkeys as well as the temple and historical momuments of the aircraft from the Battle of Ao Manao. During certain times of the year you can climb Khao Lom Muak supervised by Air Force personnel.

During my two-week stay in Prachuap Khiri Khan, I made a daily visit to Ao Manao starting from around 9 am on the second day until just two days before my departure. Despite encountering rough seas and rising tides during the initial days, the area was quite pleasant overall. However, it's worth noting that in the days leading up to my departure, there was a noticeable increase in jellyfish presence, so caution was necessary.

The rental fee for a deck chair was 20 Baht per person. Typically, they set up two tables with six deck chairs each. As a solo visitor or with a companion, the arrangement might not always be appreciated by the beach attendants. It's advisable to consider ordering food and drinks from them as they primarily rely on this revenue, offering a 10% discount to encourage purchases. Otherwise, they might not be too pleased with patrons occupying the chairs without contributing to their business.

Instead of dining at the beach, I opted to eat at the nearby hawker center across the street every day. Some of the vendors served exceptionally tasty dishes at reasonable prices, often cheaper than those available at the beachfront eateries.

On a tip from a local, I discovered that sitting at the deck chairs near the Dolphin Statue resulted in fewer complaints from the attendants. Additionally, many foreigners frequented that area, creating a more comfortable atmosphere for visitors.

Beautiful clean safe bay. The other reviews describe it well. Worth a day out, if nearby, or better yet a stay.

Beautiful and clean beach, driving through a WW2 air field to reach it was very unique.
Lots of chairs to relax on and food vendors. Then take a short drive to see the lemurs, they are so gentle and cute.

Our trip to Prachuap Khiri Khan included a crossing of the military base runway to Ao Manao. Such a beautiful place. Seats, food, jetski tow rides. Fabulous

I love to be there when I want to be alone, to keep myself down from the busy thing. I went Ao Manao alone last year after i got broken heart with depression.

To sit and see the wave with slight wind make me calm and relax, I'll be there again soon.
