About
Surrounded on all sides by stretches of lawn and encircled with a boundary of trees, shrubs and fence, the grounds of Bethune Memorial House offer a view of a typical Victorian domestic landscape. The house was only nine years old when Reverend Bethune and his family moved into it in 1889. It would have been a proud addition to the neighbourhood. Even today, if you look at some of the older homes in the neighbourhood, you can see how Bethune Memorial House and grounds would have harmonized with their environment.

Explanation centre was very good and clear with a lot of information about his life and work. House was restored and well furnished with authentic period and reproduction furniture. Some displays out in the garden as well. Well worth the admission price.

Stopped in here for a quick visit, its very easy to find. The house itself was closed when I was there. Lots of information and it's well presented. I learned a lot about this man and why he is a revered Canadian. If you're visiting Gravenhurst this is worth a visit.

We missed this attraction because we arrive at 4:05 pm. The site is only open between 10 -4. This is a national historic site, why isn't it open when the tourist are there at least till 5.

We had an excellent time learning about Dr. Bethune's contribution to China and medicine. The kids absolutely loved the Explorers program and it helped them learn about Bethune through the questions, looking for clues throughout the exhibit. We took advantage of the Canada 150 free admission and aim to go to more national historic sites this year.

This is a nice restored house belonging to the Bethune family. There is a reasonable charge to get into this building. The tour guides are very knowledgeable as well. Besides furniture and personal effects of this family, there is history about this famous doctor. After hearing the story about this gentleman, you quick learn why he ewas beloved by the chinese people and even years after his trajic death.

Norman Bethune was thrown out of numerous Canadian hospitals for his pervasive drug addictions and poor clinical judgement. He traveled to China to work in an area where drugs were plentiful, accessible, and cheap. Why is he memorialized?

I was surprised at how interesting a place this is. I didn’t even know about Dr. Norman Bethune until my wife told me about him. They also show an interesting 8 minute movie.

This is a place that holds such rich history. You learn so much from the displays! They set up the pricing in a weird way though. There is the regular fee- you get admission to the main building and the first floor of his house only. The enhanced one you get o view the second floor, see a 10 minute film and get a photo opportunity with a cardboard like version of Norman Bethune. Neat place though.
