Visited on a rainy Saturday in October on the free bus hop on /off shuttle from Ottawa -"Fall Rhapsody Tour ," and would highly recommend this trip.
We caught the bus(one of the yellow school buses) from outside the History Museum and on arrival at the park we were able to get off at any of the stops and wander around to take photos and then catch the next shuttle .We never had any more than about 10 mins to wait . Volunteers /staff were on hand at each stop to provide information and the notice broads were also very informative.
The bus drivers were all very friendly and helpful .
Despite the rain and the mist we managed to have a great morning and captured some stunning photos .
Highly recommend this tour .

It has places to swim and bike. Nice place to discover. You don't need a tour, just come by car or bike.

This park has nice trails for hiking. There is a visitor center with restrooms and some displays explaining facts about the area, such as the wildlife and terrain. We did a short walk called Sugarbush Trail. It is an easy walk through the forest on a nice gravel path that takes about 40 minutes or so. When we were there, there was a warning that bears were spotted in the area recently, but we did not encounter any, and the trail had enough people and some with dogs, so I think there was enough activity that kept bears away. There was a reasonable amount of parking, and there was no admission fee or parking fee when we were there. Some people were on bikes. While we only did the short Sugarbush trail, it looks like there are other trails that can be explored.

The roads are closed in the winter so that they can use them for cross country skiing. Unfortunately there wasn't any snow so we did some hiking. In the section around the city there is a lot of paved bike/walking trails. We did some of this combined with the bush trails. We have also hiked at the north end of the park and around the Mackenzie King Estate which would be my preference as the scenery is nicer.
Some day I want to get there when we can ski the trails.

A huge park with great hiking trails and beautiful vistas. The most southern entrance is just minutes from downtown Gatineau, but the northern, more remote entrances are further away. The northern areas have great views of downtown Ottawa in the distance to the south. Wonderful hiking trails, even near the southern entrance.

Most people had snowshoes, but if there is no fresh snow and it is below zero, the trails are usually quite easy to cover in boots. We did the hike up to Healy Shelter which was beautiful, and we ate lunch in the shelter while watching the myriad birds feeding at the feeder outside. There was already a nice fire crackling inside when we arrived.

I have done many hikes and explorations of Gatineau Park and I have never been disappointed. There are a wide variety of winter and summer trails and some fantastic ruins, caves, cliffs, beaches, and waterfalls to find. The cabins are a lot of fun for overnight stays in the winter.
