While on our tour en route to Tilajari Resort we stopped at Zarcero for a photo op. We had about 15 minutes off the bus to walk around the park and enjoy the amazing shaped topiary. You can also take a walk through the Evangelista Blanco Church.

One of the stops on my Caravan Costa Rica 8 day tour.

Located in front of San Rafael Church, the topiary gardens is very well maintained. It was decorated a it for Christmas. It is fun to walk through the garden. If you are on your way to La Fortuna, this is a good stop in Zarcero.

If you are traveling from San Jose to San Carlos or to the Arenal Volcano area and La Fortuna in Costa RIca, this is an absolute must stop. It's a totally unexpected beautiful stop with incredible topiaries in the park in front of the church. Animals, arches, and more, all originally done by one man as a gift to the town. Many other places have asked for his work, but his loyalty is to Zarcero and it is a great tribute. Absolutely wonderful.

The topiary in this park is certainly something you don’t find everywhere. The row of arches is impressive. The whimsical animals are fun to see. In addition to being interesting to visit, it serves as a training experience for young people who wish to learn how to produce the topiary. This offers the opportunity to see works in progress. It’s not a “must see” attraction but if convenient, it’s definitely worth stopping for it.

This is a great place to stop and stretch your legs if you are travelling between Alejuela and Arenal. The topiary are great fun and it's amazing to think that this started as the work of one man.

An hour should be sufficient to wander around the square and to visit the lovely church which is made of wood but painted to look like marble. We were told there are some really good ice cream shops around the square too.

We had a quick stop to see the church, which is beautiful inside and outside, and the topiary on our way from San Jose to El Arenal.

Located in front of San Rafael Church, the topiary gardens are impressive. It is fun to walk through the garden and try to identify the animals that are depicted. Keeping the shrubs trimmed is a full time job. Definitely a must see when in Zarcero.

We were told that if you walk thru the topiary garden animals hand in hand with a loved one you will be together forever! This is a really unique topiary garden in the middle of town. All different animal shapes from hedges. Many people with their children come to this park to enjoy the gardens and enjoy a picnic lunch. Different paved paths that go this way and that which is easy to walk. And behind this topiary garden is a beautiful church. You can walk thru the church as well to view the architecture if offers. And across the street is a very good ice cream shop but there may be a line to wait in!
