In the heart of Alpilles, the monumental “Carrières de Lumières” host extraordinary multimedia shows which are unique in the world. Spectators are totally immersed in the images projected onto all the surfaces of the rock. The ground is completely covered, too, and becomes a vast carpet of images. The site has reopened its doors with the show “Gauguin - Van Gogh, painters of colour”, created by Gianfranco Iannuzzi with Renato Gatto and Massimiliano Siccardi.

This tourist attraction is absolutely unique placed in a former quarry. Sound and special protection techniques are used to transform the space into a different universe. They have different themes periodically. You can buy combined tickets to visit the nearby castle remains which is also worth visiting.

If you arrive inside before the exhibition begins, you are surrounded by monolithic walls of stone standing at all angles. Then the lights dim, the music begins and you are plunged into an experience unlike any other. We had... More

To see the painting so big give us a new perspective. There also a film about Cocteau. You can take a combined ticket (visit of the castle and carrières for 16€.

When you open the door expect to be gobsmacked. You are in an art gallery where you don't walk towards the paintings, they walk towards you! Yes, those little black things in the pic really are people - this gives you an idea of the size of the place. It is gigantic. There are walkways, galleries, sloping floors, staircases, but... More

This by far was the coolest art installation I've ever seen. You must go! The feeling of being inside this quarry, the light, the music, the atmosphere. Everything coming together to make such a cool artistic experience.

When it was first mentioned to us, we had some reservations but these were dispelled the moment we entered the quarry. It is an experience like no other. We go to Provence every year and for the last 5 years have made sure to include a visit as it is a new show every year. We have never been disappointed.... More
