Stop at Horsethief Canyon observation area and have an interesting preview of the Drumheller area landscape. The view is like looking into a terrarium and seems surreal.

Only a 15 minute drive from the Royal Tyrell Museum and well worth the visit if you have a few minutes or a couple of hours. Drive into the parking lot and you can get good views across the valley but if you have time...More

We arrive on a sunny day and walked down to the valley. We are in our 50s and not in overly great shape, but we walk regularly. The hike was manageable. Bring plenty of water and be sure to bring a hat it wear sunscreen....More

I wouldn't have driven out of my way to see this, but I was already in town for the Royal Tyrell Museum so we stopped by. It was beautiful to look at and we got some really nice pictures. Definitely visit here if you will...More

Horsethief Canyons is just a short highway drive past the Royall Tyrell Museum. The parking lot is right beside where you get out to view the canyon. A great free photo op. When we went we were the only ones there.

Easy to miss from the highway. The canyon doesn't really open up until approaching the parking lot. Beautiful views.

It was a gorgeous view from all sides! Quite close to town so you don't have to go far. I just wish there were picnic tables or somewhere to sit and have lunch while enjoying the view!

Short drive from Drumheller, this is a terrific view of the valley at that point. You stand in awe of nature and the story of its name all makes sense. We visited around dusk - beautiful - but mosquitoes were busy that evening.

A visit to the viewing area allows you see most of it. Interesting and close to town. Plenty of information on site but bring you own drinks etc as local ones are expensive

It's absolutely one of the most spectacular views you'll ever find. My wife and I frequently go out there late at night to look at the stars. The air is so clear you think you're on top of the world. It's definitely worth... More
wondering how long of a hike it is total and difficulty level? We want to bring our 2 yr old son and 4 month old daughter in carriers but couldn't handle too long of a hike with them.

I think that if you and hubby are in good shape and confident hikers, you could do this with the kids in carriers. I first took my daughter who is now 16, when she was 4. We just hiked down the first part and back up again... More
