The place is wonderful. The beach is clean and the water clear and warm, but you must wear a suitable footwear as the pebbles and rocks make it harder on the feet.

HOWEVER, irresponsible owners are having their dogs off leash and some even bring them into the water, despite useless signs advising to the contrary. It appears there are no enforcements of any kind regarding pets.
These irresponsible people ruins an otherwise pleasant visit.

For camping and boating this lake is hard to beat on Vancouver Island. The lake is vast and spectacular. In the height of summer we never felt crowded on the water. The only slight problem was the boat launch needed to be upgraded. The campsites nearby were spacious and the park employees were nice and very visible throughout the day. Sproat Lake is in the centre of the island making the day time highs warmer than the ocean park locations in the summertime. We’ll be back!!

We were there in the middle of winter. There was almost no one around. Petroglyphs are always nice to see. Nice walk when there by yourself. Not sure about camping or when the place is hopping.

A beautiful and peaceful lake. Swimming and boating. Cool water on hot days makes it very refreshing. Lots of fun for everyone. Enjoy sitting on the side and watching the sunset.

We were visiting Port Alberni in August and our local friend recommended to spend some time at the Sproat Lake just 15 min outside of Port Alberni. Warm water, lots of spaces for camping, or sunbathing.

The park is located about 10 km west of Port Alberni and can be accessed by the Pacific Rim Highway on the way to Tofino via Port Alberni. The fresh water Sproat Lake is a favoured location for swimming, boating, fishing, water-skiing and when the wind is up, wind-surfing.

There are two campgrounds where people can reserve space and come and enjoy some camping in their RV and trailers. Others can enjoy a picnic in the day use area where they can do some sun-bathing by the lakeside.

There are many short trails leading into the forests. One such trail leads to the eastern end of the lake which has some ancient prehistoric petroglyphs, the rock carvings probably depicting some ancient mystical monsters of the lake.

There is a big parking lot for the day picnickers and a number of picnic benches in the open areas. Pit toilets are available in addition to the flush toilets in the day use area. Showers rooms are also there, as well as an area for boat launching.

Lively campsite. Well treed with mostly mature fir and some fairly mature cedar at this point. Interestingly the deciduous trees are very moss covered and dying off as a natural part of the cycle since this site is a loooong time post logging now. Still some huge stumps that remind us how big the original trees were. Nicely separated sites. VERY clean outhouses and there are showers at the lower site on the lake side of the highway. Short walk on very good trail to the Petroglyphs. Awesome historical art from another time.

Boat launch is good and the lake is crystal clear. Bring a mask and snorkel and maybe a crayfish trap! Still some left despite some invader Bass apparently reported to be depleting their numbers.

We have stayed at one of the five walk-in campsites next to the lake. Simply beautiful! Separated from the rest of the campground, quiet, close to big parking lot and to the hot showers which, I think, are provided mainly for day visitors. Nice lake to take a swim.
