We visited the shrine of a rainy afternoon that severly cramped our ability to see all that was offered. While we did get into the church and were able to pray and learn a bit about the martyrs honored there, we could not visit the...More

Dear Richard, Sorry to hear that your day was rain hampered. Although the church is a beautify to visit for historical and spiritual value, the remaining 74 acres of estate to discover is outside on our grounds. Weather definitely affects our visitation directly, and so,...More

Martyr's Shrine can easily be spotted from Highway 12 when you are travelling in an out of Midland. The beautiful building sits on top of a hill right across from Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons and can be very busy especially during the weekend or during...More

Worth a visit, especially near sunset when the sun shines in the front door down the main aisle and onto the alter.

The Martyrs Shrine is a beautiful and peaceful place. 'Saints Lived Hear' is their motto, and you get a real sense that this is holy ground. Take some time out for some spiritual renewal - the church is beautiful, there is a lot of history...More

Hi Nicole - I have never tried to BBQ on the grounds and I have not seen anyone else BBQ there. There are lots of great places around Midland/Penetang to do so, but the Martyr's Shrine would not be my first choice.
