If you're walking between the downtown core and the fabulous Elevation Place rec centre / community hub (which I recommend) you'll encounter a beautiful Big Head. It's great for kids, they love the scale, and that they can actually touch it and play on it. But it is serious art. The only thing I thought about on my last visit to Canmore, and seeing the Big Head was that there are nearby apartments with balconies overlooking this statue and Policeman's Creek - hope they don't mind all the photography taking place!

If this sculpture didn't cost taxpayers a penny, I would still be against it. It's ugly and inappropriate. I would far rather see a nice big evergreen tree in that spot or fixed sidewalks. What's with the horrible looking sidewalks all along Canmore's main street?

Uma estatua simples, no meio do nada, na entrada da cidade. Nao significa nada. Nada a ver com a cidade tao linda.
A simple statue, in the middle of nowhere, at the entrance to the city. It does not mean anything. Nothing to do with the city so beautiful.

It's a great sculpture that is enjoyable to take a walk around. The problem is it's sort of on the edge of the town and on the side of one of the busier roads (8th street). This would be ideal to have in the center of town in a place with less vehicle traffic and more foot traffic.

Canmore can be interpreted as "Big Head" in Gaelic, so what else would you have as a piece of public art but a big head. This photogenic statue features in many tourist pictures, and gets decorated from time to time, whenever there's a special event in town. You can't miss it at the beginning of Main Street. Stop and smile, and enjoy the scenery.

What can you say about a giant head just off the sidewalk? I'm sure that its art - but, I don't understand it. Maybe someone else will share something deep. It just doesn't fit with my thought processes. I see lots of tourists having their picture taken with it. That's about it.

We went on a short trip to Canmore recently and had a fantastic time. The town is small and beautiful surrounded by wonderful mountains. Dotted with little cafe's, restaurants, yoga studios and shops and about half hours walk away from Quarry Lake (watch out for bears in summer).
The head is a bit of an odd piece of art that's at the entrance of the town, randomly rising out of the ground next to the river. Interesting if you're into that sort of thing and right across the weekly Art Fair (which is very nice).

We caught a glimpse of this head while driving into downtown. Stopped and took a picture of it with my husband beside - they look the same!

As you turn on to Main street, look to the right side before the bridge and you will spot the Big Head. No parking close by, but after you do park, stroll back over the bridge (take pics of the beautiful views from the bridge of policemans creek and the surrounding mountains, and then head over to THE HEAD. Grab another passerby to take the photos and you and your friends all climb on and gather around in ridiculous poses with The Head. Have fun and share.
