I had a wonderful evening here with friends recently. The climate was balmy and the walks were fantastic. We ascended and were gobsmacked by the quality of the views. the Signalman's house that is now the Michael King Writer in Residence property was also a major highlight!

It may be easier to go to North Head for the views, as the way here is steep and has to be done on foot unless you get permission to drive up the road. I got to the top and found the views as good as I had expected. There is a lot of open grassland there.

Pauline from Segway Tours at the Ferry Terminal is an amazing guide. The Mt Victoria tour is fun, informative, and straight out cool 😎. Highly recommend.

Love this place, one of the classic spots I use to visit when I was growing up, so neat to be there again, just a shame you can't drive to the top.

As part of the Devonport Explorer bus, we stopped here to take in the views and photos. The driver explained the history of the site.
It can also be accessed via foot from the ferry port.

Found it a pleasant and not too taxing walk to the top to show fabulous views of our city to American friends. Well worth it.

This is described as a 10/20 minute walk - but it is hard on your legs as the first part is very very steep. Worth attempting it, however, as even if you don't make it to the top, every few yards produces a better view. Try it, whatever your age (says a 70 and 68 year old couple).

We visited Mount Victoria towards the end of our trip to New Zealand following a recommendation from some friends, it was well worth a visit, in fact we visited twice in one day, as we decided it was the perfect spot to watch the sunset. Cars are not permitted to drive to the top however if you have a mobility permit for your car you can contact the local council office for an access code, this will allow you through the barrier and you can drive right to the top.

My wife and I went up to the top and had spectacular views of Auckland. There is a cannon at the top that was evidently only fired once. When fired it broke the windows in the area, so no more firings....

Left Auckland Port, Pier 1 in a Fullar Ferry for a 12 min voyage across the harbour to Devonport. Here we picked up a tour coach at the pier for an hour's interesting tour of the suburb. I was happy when our tour driver drove us up to the top of Mt Victoria /Takarunga as some were hiking up the slope. This is Auckland's largest volcano in the North Shore at 87 M.It has wonderful views even across to North Head the other, volcano in Devonport. There are approximately 50 in the Auckland Volcanic Field. However, this is mountain is green and looks down over the main street of the shopping area of Devonport and has wonderful views across to the Auckland Port and CBD and shows a Naval Base on Devonport side as well.
Here I snapped heaps of photos and enjoyed the time on a peaceful place.
Ferry cost $15 return Tour $30 and can be booked at Fullers Ferries Auckland before departing. A wonderful time out.
