    Worth visiting!
Bekal Fort was built by the great Indian King Shivappa Nayaka of Keladi dynasty. One of the finest spots in Kasargod district and made more famous by Tamil Director Manirathnam through his movie Bombay where he shot a beautiful song featuring Arvind Samy and Manisha Koirala. Once can see pristine beaches from the fort. Highly recommended place in Northern Kerala.

    Bekal Fort
Bekal Fort offers a straightforward yet enlightening experience that beautifully combines history and natural beauty. The fort is open from 8 am to 6 pm every day, with tickets priced at ₹25 for adults and free entry for children below 15. The Fort's practical design, with a zigzag entrance and well-preserved fortifications, reflects its historical importance. The exploration of massive walls, observation towers, and an underground tunnel gives a glimpse into Kerala's rich cultural and architectural heritage. Inside the fort, you'll find carefully preserved relics, including ancient cannons and secret tunnels. Situated on a hillock overlooking the Arabian Sea, the fort provides stunning panoramic views of the coastline. It's recommended to visit early in the morning or around 4:00 pm to avoid the heat and fully enjoy the place. While Bekal Fort may lack some commercial amenities, it does provide basic facilities such as restrooms and shops. The site offers ample parking, including charging points for electric vehicles. Keep in mind that reaching the fort requires a bit of effort due to its remote location. With affordable ticket prices and a welcoming environment, Bekal Fort is suitable for visitors of all ages. Great place and well managed
Lots of expectation built by friends, mentioning the fort was same as used in famous "Tu Hi Re" song of Bombay movie and problem with expectations is that they typically disappoints. However this was an exception. A very well managed fort starting from ticket entry to entire walk along with wall and then outside the wall nearer to sea. We loved it and did a morning tour again, after covering it in prev evening. Not a very large fort so can be covered within 2 hrs easily and good pathway to walk long. You can feel the history and nature both together. There is a lady running the dosa / idly shop while approaching main gate and these are must have.

We went cycling in the morning to the Bekal fort. It opens at 8 am and you need to buy a Rs. 25/person ticket to enter. There is not much left of the fort except the outer walls but the view from a lot of places inside the fort is amazing, specially the part where you go down through a small gate. You can walk around the fort as it is quite big and can also access a beach which is very clean. The sea view is mesmerizing as the water is pure blue. It is advised to visit the fort during the day or evening as it can get quite hot during the day.

Bekal Fort is mainly a cultural attraction because of the historical fort and some rocks, etc. It also has some natural attractions like beaches connected to it.

It will take around 2-3 hours to cover the whole Bekal Fort peacefully. I think only walking is possible inside the fort, and we can’t use our vehicle.

We visited during the morning time around 10 AM, which I think is a good time to visit, but towards noon, it will be too hot. Visiting evening might be more relaxing as the temperature won’t be so hot as noon.

We were not allowed to get into the beach, but near the beach there was a place with the beach as background, and it was a good place to click photos.

A place to know about history and well placed towards the sea. A nice place for a family outing or a site around chat with some photography session.

Bekal Fort, a sight we've been pining for ever since the beautiful song Uyire Uyire first hit the screens. 24 years later, when we went there, all that beauty was still intact. As you stand at the edges and watch the waves, you’ll almost feel like the fort emerges from the sea with each wave. The massive water-tank, magazine and the age-old steps that take you to the observation tower are sights to behold. The view of the coastline and the neighbouring towns are breathtaking from up there!

As we stood there, it was effortless to put ourselves in the shoes of an old army that expected an attack any moment. And it was totally fulfilling to enjoy the breeze, listen to the rhythm of the waves and sing Uyire Uyire to our heart’s content! ❤

Go post lunch (reach around 3.30p.m.) to avoid the heat. Shade is not a luxury there :)
