The gardens have nice collections of palms, cycads, heliconias, bromeliads, and ferns. We elected to walk without a guide. I was disappointed that labels were absent from a lot of the plants. Perhaps they want to encourage you to sign up for a guide for...More

This is primarily a research station that has facilities for tourists as well. Rooms are comfortable, dormitory-like, with a double desk and excellent in-room WiFi. Everything is very clean. Meals served family-style in a cafeteria. Overall, much nicer facilities than we expected. Grounds are very...More

Huge botanical garden near San Vito. Several walking trails with beautiful fauna and flora. Great spot to catch birds and other animals.

An interesting place to visit but not fascinating. Requires quite a lot of walking so bring a picnic and take a break. The picnic area is a great place for birdwatching.

As part of our Southern Costa Rica Birding Tour, we stayed in Las Cruces Biological Station. This garden was adjacent to the lodging. Beautiful tropical plants, orchids blooming, and a pollinator garden that attracted the hummingbirds.

Many trails that enable the viewing of interesting plants, trees, and jungle. If you are interested in these matters, then the botanical garden is a 'must see' property.

The botanical gardens are beautiful, and it's a great place to walk on grassy paths meandering through large beds of plants. The palms and bamboo are really impressive as are the bromeliads, gingers, succulents,...... This is one of the largest botanical gardens in Central America,...More

Very beautiful and enlightening experience close to San Vito. We did not opt for the guided tour, so we were on our own, however, there is enough information in the brochure and placards identifying the plants that we were okay. If you are adventurous, hike...More

Wilson's is in San Vito and Lankaster in Cartago... there is one road south that will take you there... just drove it a few weeks ago. Probably looking at 5 to 6 hours.
