Advertised as one of the biggest firefly parks on the world it was really disappointing. One hour sitting in a crowded boat for seeing 5min around 20 fireflies. The blue tears is a little bit better but overall spend too much time for driving here from Kuala Lumpur and waiting.

Our evening boat tour at Kampang Kuantan Firefly Park was truly a night to remember, though not for the reasons we anticipated. The fireflies created a mesmerizing spectacle, illuminating the night like holiday lights! However, our experience took an unexpected turn when we set out to see the blue tears. Venturing into the open sea on a small river boat at night became nerve-wracking as the wind intensified, and waves grew. I was genuinely concerned our boat might capsize. Fortunately, we made it back safely. My advice is to stick to enjoying the enchanting fireflies and skip the rest.

My tour provider was D Tours Kuala Selangor. We just need to collect tickets once at the counter and get ready at the jetty around 5pm. Everyone put on their life jackets and we headed out on a boat to see the captain feed the eagles in the evening. He dropped us back at jetty and we went for dinner.

We gathered back at the jetty around 7pm, boarded the boat and headed out again. Please do remember to apply your mosquito repellent beforehand, they do sell it on the boat too. We saw so many fireflies mating in the bushes at night, they were like Christmas lights, lit up the trees in the dark by the river.

Then we headed back out to the estuary. This time we were given a tiny net attached to a long pole. We were asked to move the net around in the water. We saw blue light, it's the bioluminescent algae. You can only see with your naked eyes, unique experience. It rained in the morning, so the guide told us we weren't seeing many. If it's concentrated, we may see a bright and vivid blue light over the water surface when the boat or anything disturb it. We managed to see it glow dimly, was not able to take any photos though, we had a great time and it was educational too.

We booked a private tour direct with May from Jalan with M.K. May picked us up from our hotel at 4pm, then a 1 hour drive to Bukit Sri Shakti. We visited this Rotan Hindu Temple for 30 minutes or so, as enroute. The temple was lovely to see and May was able to share a lot of interesting information. No photos allowed from inside the temple which is such a shame as it is really detailed and beautiful, although we took several from outside.

We then continued onto monkey feeding at Bukit Malawati. We drove straight up and parked at the top of the hill. Melawati Hill (Monkey Hill) is home to the silver leaf monkeys (black fur) who roam around this lighthouse viewpoint. Unlike the long-tailed macaques (gray fur) that can be quite aggressive and mischievous, the silver leaf monkeys (black fur) are actually really friendly and the babies, covered in orange fur, are super cute. Locals are there with bags of locally grown vegetables for you to purchase at 10MYR per bag to feed the monkeys, which we highly recommend. The monkeys liked the green leaves and bananas, but sweet potato seemed to be the favourite! the peanuts they would only eat after everything else had already been eaten. We were here another 30 minutes or so. Feeding the monkeys was an experience! be prepared for them to climb all over you as you start to feed them! we got some amazing photos. Some hilarious ones too as they jumped on our shoulders! lol

We stopped for a soft drink (included) before driving onto the river. A relaxed dinner by the river was detailed on our itinerary before the firefly experience by boat. Although May knew I couldn't eat seafood we still went to a seafood restaurant as located right next door the boat dock where we took our boat trip, but she was able to order a marmite style chicken I could eat with plain rice off the menu, which was quite tasty. Hubby loved the seafood though.

Then onto the highlights of the evening - the fireflies and then the bio-luminescence. We boarded a long boat with motor with several other tourists and were given life jackets. There was no wait, possibly May had prebooked for us. We then set off down the river at a brisk pace. After a while we slowed down and the driver took us right up to the river bank. The fireflies were in the trees on the riverbanks, hundreds and thousands of them! Looking more like fairy lights twinkling in the branches then anything. We were unable to take any photos on our camera as they are so quick moving. We drove slowly up one side of the river, and then back down the other side. It was magical. The boat ride lasted around 20 minutes.

We then stayed on the boat for the second part of the boat trip - to see the bio-luminescence. This was possibly the highlight of the evening! The boat drove up the river a short distance and then slowed right down. We were all given little fishing nets on poles, which we used to agitate the water. This made the algae light up and glow blue, flashing brightly at times! It really was such an amazing sight to see. Again photos weren't really possibly, but just seeing it with your own eyes was amazing. Afterwards, the boat sped up quickly and we all watched as the wake of the boat glowed and flashed brightly with the algae - a spectacular sight. This boat ride also lasted around 20 minutes.

We returned to the hotel around 10pm, after the 1 hour drive back from Kuala Selangor. An action packed 4 hours, with 2 hours of driving. We would highly recommend, it has long been a wish of mine to see fireflies and also to see bio-luminescence so I felt so lucky to finally be able to experience both!

We were just very surprised at all the extra costs throughout the night. Considering the tour is called 'Monkey feeding, fireflies & blue tears experience ' all of this actually cost extra! 10MYR per bag of food to feed the monkeys, 84MYR extra for the 2 of us to go on the boat to see the fireflies and bio-luminescence and 50MYR for the food - but all other tours included food in the quoted price!!

The quote and itinerary we received in advance from May implied that everything was included, but this is very much not the case. So we just felt a bit ripped off on the night, as other tours we had looked at all included all these 'extras' as standard. The extras only cost us an extra £29 total, but it's the fact we weren't made aware of these upfront. These extra costs also made this tour more expensive than other tour operators I had looked at, although we chose to go with May as we have toured with her before and she is lovely, plus she offered the bio-luminescence as part of the tour, which not many tours do. So we probably would still have gone with her, knowing the higher cost, I just think this needs to be made much clearer at the booking stage. So I suggested to May that she might want to update her itinerary to make it known that there are several extra costs involved.

We had such an amazing night with the fireflies and the algae though, don't let this put you off! just be very clear upfront about what is actually included in the price you are paying. Total cost was 683MYR (£127) for us both. Plus we then paid extra on the night; 20MYR for monkey food, 50MYR for meal, 84MYR for boat trip at total 154MYR (£29).

May had fantastic playlists! great for the long car journeys, although we mostly napped on the way back! lol May is a very safe and steady driver. We really did have an amazing evening and would not hesitate to book again - just confirm full costs of tour upfront.

No queue whatsoever at 8.30pm - just a steady number of visitors and a really effective system of boats coming and going. Lasts about 20-30 mins. and is a very peaceful and gentle experience on the river, with the boats being operated by paddles rather than motors. RM 50 per boat - upto 4 people. Really enjoyed it.

The queue is long start at 7pm. After 8pm will be lesser.

The entrance fee is quite cheap. Worth to bring young kids to visit.

After reading some reviews on TripAdvisor, we decided we would not take a tour and instead do this activity individually. We booked a metered taxi for 300 RM which would include round trip to and from Selangor to our KL hotel.

Now one thing that you need to know here is that Selangor has two activities that you must do. Sky Mirror which happens only in the morning and firefly activity which only happens in the night. So if you have time, try and cover both in a day. I learned this only when we reached KL and hence had to skip Sky Mirror activity which I was really eager to do.

Back to the review: We reached the village around 6 PM and were recommended to do the eagle feeding activity followed by the firefly show which starts at 7:30PM. So for a price of 120 RM we booked these two activity. Now the good thing which happened was that we did not waste any time waiting for the boats. We immediately went for the eagle feeding trip which is basically watching birds dive down and catch food/fish from the lake. It was nice to watch so many birds (white birds) + eagles perform their trick.

Post which we were transferred to other boat and we left to watch the fireflies. Now this is a sight to behold. Thousands of fireflies are visible twinkling within the bushes. It almost looks like a Christmas decoration with twinkling lights. It was absolutely amazing since I haven't seen so many fireflies at one spot before. A must do for nature lovers :)

30 minutes by speedboat from kuala selangor they take you to see colony of fireflies in the evening but we found only very little of them. Not worth taking the trouble but if you want to go then you could combine the same with skymirror trip if possible.

This tour started at 3pm and included a stop to feed monkeys. what fun! buy some food and the monkeys come. They climb on you and jostle for the food. Dinner at the restaurant is adequate. The boat ride to see the fireflies is fun and takes about 40 minutes. Make sure you have insect repellent with you. A pleasant way to spend a late afternoon/early evening.
