The temple is very old and extremely beautiful. There are murtis of Shri Vishnu in different avatars. The murti of Shri Vishnu in reclining position is extremely beautiful.

I was keen to visit the Pancharanga Kshetra at Sri Rangapatnam on the banks of Kaveri. I had never been here before and therefore it was a bit if guess work. I took a train from Bangalore City to Pandavapura (PANP) as it appeared closer to the temple. Rather than go to Mysuru and track back 20Km, I decided to get down at Pandavapura which is only 7 Km from the Temple. I reached Pandavapura at around 3:30 p.m. The station is well served by public transport and Autos. As soon I got out of the station, there were plenty of Autos. The driver asked for Rs.150 which I thought was OK. I reached temple by 4:00 p.m. and waited for half hour (there are plenty of tea and snack shops near temple entrance). Temple opened at 4:30 p.m. I finished Darshana of Lord Ranganathar by 5:00 p.m. to my full satisfaction (no one pushing or shouting). I took an Auto from Temple entrance to PANP for same Rs.150. My return train was at 6:40 p.m. (there are snack shops near Railway station). Overall an easy place to visit and get peaceful darshana of Lord Ranganathar. Very peaceful and pleasant, relaxed darshana of Lord.

The Temple has its own importance. The architect of the temple is beautiful. You will find calm when you go inside the temple.

According to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the temple is one of considerable antiquity. An inscription at the temple reveals it was first consecrated in 984 A.D. by a local chief called Tirumalaiah, a vassal of the Western Ganga dynasty. In the early 12th century, Hoysala King Vishnuvardhana (r.1108-1152) granted the village of Srirangapatna to the Vaishnava saint Ramanujacharya as an agraharam (place of learning).
