About
As far back as 500BC, Hippocrates recognised the benefits of warmed seawater for its ability to rebalance and detoxify our bodies. Salt water bathing was believed to improve mobility by easing muscle and joint inflammation, and general aches and pains. Today, those healing properties remain, and it’s all right here beneath the majesty of Mauao, Mount Maunganui. Come and soak in our heated salt water pools and experience the benefits for yourself. Top it off with a massage from our friendly and experienced therapists to really treat your body.

Terrible experience. Vikki lifeguard had major attitude, caused a confrontation and behaved totally immature smirking and laughing at myself and my children. No manager on duty. Have complained to bay venues as we felt so uncomfortable we left. Rules have become strict about having children in the pool even though my children were all teenagers apart from one 10 year old. I actively supervised and they were all within 2 metres of me. I was taking photos of them and still engaging in conversation from the poolside. I had one headphone in and one ear free and demonstrated to Vikki that I could engage in conversation and hear and see my children at all times. Vikki would not leave me alone and then brought another lifeguard into the confrontation. When I asked to speak to who was in charge I was told no manager was on that day. Really unpleasant experience. Rules changed only 1 month ago and the lifeguards are on a power trip. We were regular users of the pools before this experience and we always had a lot of fun. They have absolutely ruined it for us and we won’t be back.

Thank you for placing your feedback regarding your experience at the Mount Hot Pools. I have reviewed your feedback, report written by the staff on the day and CCTV footage of your visit. From what I observed you were informed of our supervision requirements upon entry, then by our Team Leader on poolside while your headphones were on and then re-informed of these requirements when you still did not meet them by our Onsite Supervisor. We at Bay Venues are dedicated to the safety of everyone visiting our venues, with an extra focus on children 10 years and under. Our staff acted in accordance with our ‘Keep Me Safe’ Child Supervision requirements in that a caregiver 16 years and over must be actively supervising children 10 years and under, with no distractions. When approached to remove your headphones while supervising your child, had you done this they would have not approached you again.
Please find further information here:

We are sorry you left feeling underwhelmed with your experience and hope you now feel better informed on the supervision requirements across our 5 Tauranga Aquatic Facilities for smoother future visits
Kind Regards

We were able to book a private pool on line with absolutly no bother. We found the pool to be too hot for us and in hind sight should have just used the main pool. A private pool for 2 seniors was $32.00.Was just a little bit smelly around the edges under the wooden frame...could do with a bit of a spruce up. Other than that it was just OK.

Haven’t used the Hot pools since the last maintenance closure and decided to give the private pools a visit. The upgrade in tiles choice and Bluetooth speaker made it feel very Luxurious.
The whole facility was very clean and super friendly staff.

Himself and I, after climbing Mount Manganui decided to try the Mount Hot Pools. We were not disappointed! Temps range between 31 and 37 degrees Celsius and really helped those aching muscles. Highly recommend!

Just lovely! We popped in over the weekend. What a lovely place! We had a Private Pool which was perfect, the perfect temperature, setup, vibe, so worth it, and the Public Pools are epic! Friendly for people of all ages to have fun or just chill. Neza at Reception was lovely and Jessica who we arranged our experience through was so professional and friendly. We highly recommend coming along to Mount Hot Pools!

Great for families! Lots of space and several different temperature pools. Need to keep an eye on pool depths though, it does change. The kiddie pool was popular with both our 5 and 7 year old. We also got a rousing game of Marco polo going with about 10 kids. Not much seating available.

Visited the Hot pools on a Saturday. Very well maintained and friendly reception staff. Several pools to choose from. Only slight negative is that the lifeguards made no attempt to keep the one swimming lane free for lap swimmers so other pool users were constantly intruding into the lane.
Used the massage facilities and cannot recommend highly enough the wonderful and expert massage that I received from Roberta

What a fantastic place to visit. Immaculately clean hot sea water pools (treated with chlorine). We thoroughly enjoyed our time there this morning. Spotlessly clean change rooms, friendly staff, what pleasant visit. Over the past 13 years we have visited this pool many times, and it never disappoints. Onsite parking is also available.

What a small and cozy swimming pool. Clean and professional. The private pool is highly recommended, it is a bit warm, but they said that when booking. The massages are also very professional and very good. Recommended for a relaxing afternoon.

Can I bring food on site or is there cafe or food I can purchase on site 😁 thanks
Written 31 July 2020
SORRY!! My previous reply was for a different hot pool, so please disregard.
You can take your own food, but the shop only sells swim wear, a few souvenirs, ice creams and a few cold beverages from a fridge. It’s right next to all the main row of shops and restaurants though, so it’s very easy to get something before or after if you want to.

I wonder how safe is the water.Do you have regular monitoring? What chemicals, if any, are used to ensure water quality? Thanks.
Written 13 September 2018
Once upon a time it was just hot sea water, but these day the sea ain’t what it used to be, so they now have to treat it with chemicals so it’s “clean”.

Hi should I book in advance or can I show up and pay admission? Thanks

Hi Mary
You would need to bus from Rotorua to Tauranga and then change to the local Bay Bus service from Tauranga to the Mount Hot Pools. The bus stops directly outside the complex

Hi Shar
The water is natural ocean water with chlorine. It is geothermally heated but the two waters don't mix and the bore water does not enter the pool at all

My hubby and I arrive on 2nd Feb 2017 on Radiance of the Seas. We would like to book a private pool for a short time after 2.pm.
How do we go about doing this? How long does it take to walk up to Mt Wanganui if u r reasonably fit but not rushing?
Written 2 September 2016
A trip up the Mt takes about 45mins to 1 hour .
Ring the Hot Pools and book the private pool for the time and date you require. They have just finished renovating them and they look fantastic .
