We started our visit in the visitor centre and were warmly welcomed by a very knowledgeable lady who answered all our questions. We went to the tearoom where my wife was pleasantly surprised to find they sold gluten free cake on the menu. It was wonderful. A quick visit to the shop made us think about presents for the future.... More

We had a wonderful afternoon out here. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the views stunning. The abbey and college buildings are amazing. The centre showing the history is really interesting. Once inside, the area that houses the gift shop and tearoom is absolutely lovely. The gift shop, had lots of interesting items to purchase including the beer and cider brewed... More

Ampleforth Abbey is on the slope of a hill giving visitors and residents a great view. The history of the Monks and the school is very interesting .The abbey's architecture is a bit heavy for my personal taste. The central tower bears down on you, something a little more soaring and uplifting would be more of a crowning glory. The... More

We stayed for hours wandering round the exhibitions, the abbey, the shop and then had a snack in the café. Try anything home made, especially the cider or the apple cake

We're thrilled to hear that you sampled the highly acclaimed Apple Cake and that it lived up to expectation! We would love to see you again soon - perhaps you would like to book on one of our guided tours of the Orchard to see where the apples grow and our tasty cider is made. Please do visit the website... You do not need to be religious to have a lovely day out Ampleforth Abbey. It is in a beautiful setting with a super tea room, a shop, a very interesting visitor's centre and some lovely walks. We were lucky enough to be there on a Thursday when visitors can go on a guided tour or the church which was... More

Such a spiritual place and the masses are so spiritual. What a wonderfully quiet place to contemplate life and to get lost in thought.

We have visited on 3 separate occasions when we were in Yorkshire. WE visited the tea rooms and once we stayed overnight in the guest rooms. Beautiful scenery, warm, welcoming staff and a place of great tranquillity. We attended the services with the monks as well which was a wonderful experience. Definitely going back

Best of class. Not fancy service, but good Yorkshire value, and staff infused with Benedictine values.

We came across the Abbey by accident really, but it was only a 5 minute drive from our holiday house. It was absolutely beautiful as we drove up to it. We went inside to the tea rooms as our daughter I. was hungry. It was lovely and visited the bookshop too, which was brilliant. Very interesting place and as we... More
