This side of Argentina is in high elevation. Chilean border is nearby. You might get snow this time of year but the river is dry.

Following the Mendoza river along the highway from Aconcagua's heights to the channels of the city is fascinating given that the melting snows are Mendoza's only source of water.

We drove route 7 from Mendoza to the Chilean border and the Mendoza river is on your side much of the way. There is a water park shortly out of town that is only 50 pesos to spend the day, some hot springs, a lake and more rugged terrain the further up the valley you go. This was less of a destination on my travels but more of a casual observation much of my day.

Take the Santiago road through the mountains and prepare to be amazed. Fantastic rock formations, amazing colours and views. We went on a bright cloudless day and it was truly memorable.

We were lucky enough to see the gate had been opened and the river was flowing. There is something special about seeing the river flowing and hearing the sounds at the bottom of the Andes

In a deep valley, formed by mountain ranges of the Andes mountain range, the Mendoza River flows mightily. From the gates upstream of the Cacheuta Station, it gains speed, its rapids, with turquoise, light blue waters, crowned with foam when colliding with the stones along with the diverse colors of the mountains, playing with the chiaroscuro of sunlight, is a natural spectacle of sound, movement and enjoyment.
