Great history lesson.

We went to the Ecological preserve and it was a very enlightening place to visit. Lots of history to see and learn from. English is a bit hard to find, but we were able to get through with our rudimentary Spanish and their limited English. We then went to several of the Monkey Islands and were able to see them in the trees. It was very hot and the lake felt like bath water.

Beautiful Lake

Beautiful lake with lots of wildlife. Monkeys from Asia were put on an island of the after they were used in some sort of experiment. But they make an interesting attraction. Lots of birds. Keep your eyes open, you might see a croc in the water!

Can make arrangements for a boat through the hotel.

Best place on the planet

This is the best place in Mexico, rivers lakes ocean water falls awesome food and brujos! I have seen the world and this place I put in my top 3 places on the planet. They have white gorillas maaaan!

Underwhelming and over priced

To start, the lake and surrounding jungle is BEAUTIFUL. Seeing the monkeys on the islands is very cool, but the boat tour is a rip off. Most of the destinations the boat takes you too require extra payment and felt super touristy (mud mask, ecological center that's more like a zoo)…Definitely over priced for the experience.

Don't miss the tour of the lake

I went back to Catemaco recently and enjoyed a boat tour of the lake. It was awesome! It cost approximate $11 (200 pesos), and it was worth every penny. I especially enjoyed the monkeys, but everything about the experience was wonderful.

Not as big as I thought it would be

This lake was not nearly as big as I thought it would be. It was still beautiful and a must-see if you are in Catemaco.

I love this place

Catemaco is features in one of my books ("Love Waits" by Judah Knight), and I can't think of a more enchanting place in the region. This lake is so beautiful and memorable. I was disappointed that the weather prevented me from taking the boat tour.

shame about the rubbish and the harassment

the lake itself is quite nice, but the experience is marred by the constant harassment of touts offering "lancha" service (boat ride). there is also a lot of rubbish left behind by people and the smell of fouling from the local stork/crane population which is not cleaned in a timely manner.

Jungle, amazing food, people and waterfalls! A definitely tour to take.
Enjoy the views, mineral waters, a mini spa session, in the hot waters of Catemaco!
Where else?
My recommendation, go with Amphibian’s touristic operator.
