Amazing ruins from 5000 (!) Years ago, fabulous signage and information, nice facilities and easily walkable paths, even with wheelchair access to many of the areas. A bit of a trip from Lima, and a bumpy but well marked gravel road at the end, but we felt it was well worth the trip to see, experience, and understand this impressive site and civilization. Local (required) guide was good, but guides only in Spanish, so we were glad to have brought an interpreter. Clean, nice bathroom, some snacks and small gift shop and souvenirs on site. Very few visitors on the day we were there, almost had the place to ourselves.

Caral is the main city of one of the oldest civilizations of latin america and the world. This is a city comprisiing ruins of pyramids, including some temples and houses.

Be mindful that Caral is a stone age city, the did not have bronze or other metals, so when you see the buildings you have to consider this as thousands of years older than Inca ruins (if you happen to see people comparing this to Machu Picchu).

It is a one hour or more walking tour on the sun, so take sunblock and a hat.

Dear, Receive a cordial greeting from the Archaeological Zone of Caral - Executing Unit No. 003. We appreciate your visit to the Sacred City of Caral, World Heritage. As you mentioned, it's important to situate ourselves in time to understand the importance of the Caral Civilization for the continent. 5000 years ago they knew how to adapt to the geography of the place to last for a long time until today. We hope you will visit us again to learn more about this impressive civilization. Sincerely.

This tour is a visit to a 5,000 year old civilization, or at least the remains. Interestingly, this site was discovered by a Peruvian anthropologist in the early 1990’s and is as old as the Egyptian pyramids. We were most fortunate to have a local guide who has worked on these sites since the beginning of their excavation, and we benefited from his knowledge and understanding. Our Haku guide and translator was a native of the Caral area which added more understanding. The drive from Lima is 4 or more hours, which makes a long day but our Haku guide made it very educational and informative, so we were not bored at all. We rate this tour as one of the all time best and certainly one not to miss.

Dear, Receive a cordial greeting from the Archaeological Zone of Caral - Executing Unit No. 003. We appreciate your visit to the Sacred City of Caral, World Heritage. We are glad that you enjoyed your tour and that you can learn a little more about Caral, the oldest civilization in the Americas. In 1994, Dr. Ruth Shady made the discovery of the Sacred City of Caral, which completely changed the scheme that had until then on the history of this region; the findings each time surprise the world for their particularity and for those knowledge that must be remembered today. We hope you will visit us again to learn more about this impressive civilization. Kind regards.

We had a tour around the complex. Very ancient but not as breathtaking as I dreamed it would be.

From any main road it takes about an hour and a half of offroading to get there. Be aware: The road heading out of Caral complex to the north goes through a river! We had to drive all the way around it, taking us an additional 2 hours. Use a 4x4 when driving up there.

My husband hired a driver and private transport and guide in order to visit this amazing archaeological site, it took 4 hours to get there but it was totally worth it , it was fascinating , this complex was contemporaneous with the Egyptian pyramids and the most impressive achievement was its monumental architecture.

I drive from Lima to Caral, is almost 3 hours from Lima. The last 30 minutes the road is not so good but you can go with a normal car. When you arrive you need to walk in order to visit the city, so be prepare for the sun. It is really a great place to visit. Unforgettable. You will feel that you go back in the history.
