- Charudatta Chousalkar13 contributionsAwesome for a day tripAwesome place to visit and for one day trip. I visited 2 times but missed all the fun the first time. Recently When I visited 2nd time (Nov2020) We went directly for Coracle ride (coordinates : 12.1154970, 77.7799325) rather than visiting the main view point where we see falls from railings structure. Coracle ride is for 3 to 4 hours. It contains coracle ride in the Cauvery river, visit to island and visit to 2 falls. We needed 2 boats. They charged us 1500 standard (750 per boat with capacity upto 3 people) for ride and island visit and additional 3500(but negotiable) for 2 falls visit (karnataka and tamilnadu falls) We had loads of fun riding with Narasimman (9159654334). While returning we stopped in Netrampalayam to have Appe Snacks break made by Amma (coordinates: 12.2504670, 77.7372596). *Its open now in Nov2020 if you are worried about corona and opening status. Better contact local boatmen or hotels or shops before going. *carry some backup food *from bangalore take electronic city road and then there are two options take right from Attibele (shortest route. Road condition is good. But its mostly one lane road.) or hosur(joins Attibele road only) or from shoolagiri (comparatively longer route but good and 2 lane road.) We went by Shoolagiri road and came back by attibele road. *If its dark and late and you are not with big group avoid attibele road. * you have to pay for hogenekkal entry 100 rs and 2 times for forest entry 20rs each.Visited November 2020Travelled with friendsWritten 30 November 2020
- Suriya NTiruchirappalli, India20 contributionsA Short Trip to HoggenakkalIt was a good one-day trip from Banglore. Started from Banglore (HSR Layout) by 09:50 AM and reached by 12:30 PM. Not much rush, Good Oil Massage in the falls, and then being drenched in the falls is good relaxation. The distance is 130km. If there is a good road, you could have reached it within 2 hours. Due to poor roads for about 10 km, it has taken 3 hours to reach. You need to pay at two checkposts, one is for forest entry and another one is for Hokkenakkal entry. At Hoggenakkal Entry, you will b surrounded by the helmsman who will take you to Hotel Tamilnadu's paid parking slot and will guide you only if you accepted a Boat ride.Visited March 2023Written 20 March 2023
- sridharan2013Bengaluru, India1,273 contributionsNature's abundant beautyThis is series of water falls in rocky surroundings is fed by water from river Cauvery. There are five adjacent waterfalls. A ride by coracle gives you a closer view of the lovely water falls. The entire place is poorly maintained, dirty and shabby. Though a place of natural beauty, apathy from tourism prevents this place from cashing on its potential. Other than tamilnadu restaurent which only serves typical South Indian food, no other worthwhile facility exists. It is really sad.Visited May 2022Written 31 July 2022

Beautiful falls, it was full of water, nice to experience nature
Choracle ride was stopped for few days due to lots of water flowing
Place is so crowded , felt bit clumsy
Stayed a night at TTDC, descent accomodation, enough parking, but fooding option was limited
Did not get proper evening scacks , even around
But if you love to drive , irrespective of going through hosur side or janakpura , later part of journey is beautiful through village road, bit of jangle, bit of ghats
Overall good experience. Enjoyed the trip as did not keep high expectations as per reviews I read before going

After reading random reviews on google about Hogenakkal Falls, I found the number for Mr. Vijay and I called him to guide me how to reach and room + activities arrangements. He was in constant touch throughout my journey to the point and even came to recieve me at the bus stand. His hotel is a nice place to stay, looking forward to visit this place again.
Talking about my Coral boating experience - it was not that great because local people and some tourists has made the Kaveri river dirty, also I went few days before monsoon is about to begin so didn't find the waterfall and experience that I was expecting but overall if the river will be clean it will be a 5/5 experience even if there will be waterfall or not.
You can call Vijay - +919047111380 whenever you reach this place, he will help you with everything

While the photos and reviews took us to the falls, and the water falls are great. we did not like the experience a bit. Blame it on the population or the horrible attitude of the local people or the lack of empathy of the visitors.
We reached there on a long drive on me Honda CB 350 Highness(My daughter and me). The road was wonderful for a bike drive, but i felt sorry for the tourists in cars and busses. It will be almost impossible to overtake without some risky maneuvers. There are some local "Ticket collectors" who will ask you for ₹20 for a bike and ₹100 for a car. No Receipts or Tickets. There will be a police guy who will be counting the cars to get his part of the share.
It was a Sunday and we expected the rush but were not prepared for the attitude of the hawkers. The minute you stop:
1. A man will come and ask either Falls/Massage/fish/the others cannot be listed here
2. The gates to the falls area are conveniently locked forcing you to only enter via the hundreds to dingy eateries.
3. We ended up in the fish market where you buy the fishes and they will fry them in front of you.
4 The place was very very dirty. Food and fish thorns all over. Cooking (frying) being done at every nook and corner with no care of cleanliness. If you stop to take your breath. The person cooking nearby will ask you to move away as his dirty setup may not be visible to a prospective customer.
5. It was hot, so we stopped in front of an ice cream shop. The shopkeeper was quick and courteous is giving us the ice creams. but once we paid him, his attitude changed and he shouted at us for blocking his shop view. Funny thing was that when we were prospective customers, He talked in all languages... explaining his ice creams. But after the transaction was completed he started shouting in Tamil.
6. All this while there were guys carrying dirty bottles of liquid which resembled oil asking you for a massage. These guy are real pests along with the boatmen who pester you for a coracle ride. I ignored them but it got really irritating when they abuse you for not becoming their customers
7. We went to the rope Bridge across the river(₹20 for tourists ) and it was a relief as there were no touts to bother you. We were happy even though it was crowded. Too some snaps, were able to finally enjiy the falls for a few minutes.
8. The madness started again we came back from the bridge.
9. There were many tourists who were sitting in the water. My daughter called it the family bathing pool. People were being massaged, ladies were washing clothes with soap, People were having bath with soap in the same place. Some others were eating the fish and spitting the waste into the same water. It was so gross, seeing all of the above happen in the same spot. Yuck!
10. We decided not to even put in our toes in that water(It was like the sewage water). A notable mention is that this water is a part of the river and the water becomes a part of the falls.
11. All the massaged Heroes were standing in a special platform constructed so that the water falls on them. They seemed to be happy.... But it was the same water where tourists were indulging in polluting activities... There was a ladies falls, where women could stand in a place with walls constructed. It is a nice idea for a woman's modesty, but the dirty water flows there too.
12. ₹ 1500 for a coracle ride. We ran away. For all you know, the cost of a coracle will be less.
Lessons learnt.
1. Never go there on weekends and holidays.
2. Carry your own food. The hotels there are very very dirty.
3. If you are a veggie, Never go neat the fish market

Yes, the falls should be open. We visited end of December 2022 and the flow water in the falls was quite good. There could be huge crowd of tourists as it is a long weekend.
We want to visit hoggenkal falls on Dec 3rd 2022. Please let us know if the falls are open especially for boating and waterfalls.
