Parents took family or themselves and friends here in 1960s through 1980s. The good was miles of beach, clamming, fishing, sign board to keep track of sodas and cerveza. The bad in boy child 12 year old viewpoint was 1) heading out to the driver of boat purposefully ran over a pelican and freaked me. 2) while playing with sea... More

I first heard of this little fishing village last year when I started researching where we could take our family to swim with the Whale Sharks. My husband thought I was slightly crazy when I told him I wanted to road trip down the Mexican Baja 10 hours with our 5 kids through the desert to do this. Hind sight,... More

Bahia de Los Angeles is a great "old baja-style" place for fishing, camping, beach walking, and exploring. It gets super hot here in the summer.

Located on the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Bahia de los Angeles (Bay of Angeles) is at least a 10-hour drive (standard passenger vehicle) from the border crossing at Tijuana, or at least an 8-hour drive (4-wheel vehicle only) from the border crossing at Mexicali. The beauty of the natural and undisturbed bay with a huge island in the... More

Great vacation destination. Affordable, good food and superrelaxing. Rent one of the rooms right in front of the bay for an awesome view when you wake up. Seeing and swimming with the whale sharks is one of the best things I've ever experienced. Make sure to go with a small group so you can share the cost of renting the... More

Bahia de los Angeles is tough to get to, but that's what makes it so special. The town has less than 3,000 people and is right in front of the Gulf of California's Midriff Islands, a hotspot for biodiversity. The bay itself is beautiful and hosts whale sharks from mid-June onwards. The whale sharks feed very close to shore and... More

Getting here is just part of the fun. Driving from either the Pacific side via El Rosario and Catavina on Mexico 1 until you pass Chapala and on to Mexico 12 and turn toward LA Bay. Or, you can drive South from Mexicali on Mexico 5 through San Felipe, past Gonzaga Bay on good roads. The highway is under construction... More

On the water in Bahia De Los Angeles, Baja California, Mexico. Cabins and motel rooms. Basic, cheap, great for casual vacations. The large covered porch is good for cooking and dining using your camp kitchen.

If you are looking for an authentic Baja experience make the short trek across the peninsula to Bahia de Los Angeles. This small town has a great vibe to it and some excellent whale watching. In town ask around for Pancho as he knows the whales in the area and where to find them. Lots of options for camping and... More
