We went to this site with our two little kids (1 and 3 years old). Beautiful location for a walk and wonderful views and flowers.
There is a nice cafe nearby.

In his poem Testament, Taras Shevchenko, Ukraine's most famous poet, but also an incredibly accomplished artist, described his ideal resting place, on a hill overlooking the Dnipro River. The site chosen just south of Kaniv more than achieved this aim. The preserve itself, its view and its monuments, are amazing. But more than worth the time and the price of the ticket is the museum dedicated to him. Ukraine is home to myriad museums that are incredibly affordable, including this one - but more than many Ukrainian museums, this one is accessible to non-Ukrainian speakers as much of his life story and the descriptions of the art and artifacts on display are in English as well as Ukrainian and Russian. This makes it easy to appreciate. It was educational and worth the time.

A few flights of stairs lead to the mountain which houses the place where Taras Shevchenko rests. The premises are recently renovated and well taken care of. There is a Taras Shevchenko museum on the top of the mountain which contains a few original artifacts from the grave and a lot of artwork featuring Ukraine's most famous poet. There are very few placards in the museum explaining what are the works and none explaining why there are there so a guide is necessary to understand what is going on. The map at the entrance to the reserve lists two types of paths: for the public and for the tour groups. However when I walked in ready to head down the public paths I was stopped by security telling me I couldn't access the premises without prior authorization.

I had heard about the Taras Shevchenko gravesite and memorial museum, near Kaniv, some years ago but did not have a chance to visit it until October 2014.
There are many Shevchenko memorials in many places, but it is on this hill that the poet and artist is buried, overlooking the Dnipro river. He died in St Petersburg in 1861 but his body was brought back by road to this burial place near Kaniv, and in the museum you can see pictures of this long journey and of the burial itself.
A statue has been built on top of Shevchenko's grave, which is decorated with traditional symbols and flowers and vegetation year-round.
The Museum has many displays about the poet, artist, and etcher (he believed that etching was a fundamentally democratic art), who played an important role in Ukrainian cultural history.
The museum is located beside the gravesite, and both look out over the wide and tranquil Dnipro River. Tall trees dot the hill, including around the traditional hut that gives an idea of how the poet might have lived. The site is so peaceful, quiet and still, and beautiful - well worth the drive out from Kaniv.
You can take a virtual tour, if you like, by visiting the museum website at http://www.museumshevchenko.org.ua/page.php?id=1#

A beautiful place, suitable for photography. There are not enough cafes and restaurants in the vicinity of this place with a view of the Dnieper.
It is especially interesting for those who love Shevchenko’s work; much around is reminiscent of the works and life of Taras Grigorievich
