An economical and best way to travel fro Dumai to Malacca from Dumai Ferry Station. Normally we preferred to purchase tickets in advance. Need to collect boarding pass the day before the scheduled departure. Several small business plies in the ferry before departure. Money changer, bottled mineral water and small sneck like peanuts, crackers, buah sala fruit are sold before departure. Seats are now given when you purchase. Ride about 2.5 hours.

Dumai can be a short getaway for people who just needs to disappear for a while. 2 and a half hours ferry ride from Melaka and your in Dumai, Riau. What activities to do in Dumai... just relax, enjoy the local traditional massage and the authentic Minang and Padang food is to die for. And there is also selection of gourmet coffee and cafes to hang out and chill.

From Melaka to Dumai, I had a window seat covered in sweat-inducing vinyl. For the return trip to Melaka, I was inexplicably given a numbered seat in the VIP cabin. Again, I had a window seat, but the glass was opaque, so I saw nothing the whole journey. The TV showed the exact same Chinese Kungfu movie (subtitled in Malay) both ways. The toilets are of the squat variety.

Still 2 departures per day to Malacca and port Dickson, the schedule changed a little bit though compared to the previous posts.
Below are the infos dating from August 2019. Don't forget to buy the tickets at the Indomal office which is a few km away from the ferry port.

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
