Beautiful place but increasingly visitor unfriendly

Recent ‘improvements’ seem to favour cattle over humans. We are now kept out of beautiful fields and obliged to kettle ourselves along muddy and very slippery verges.

Lovely memories

The Playhouse was used as a Nursery school in the late 1960s. Both my brothers went to play school there. My Father is buried in the Cemetry. It is a lovely place to visit and to enjoy the green spaces. However, if the wind is blowing in a certain direction, the M25 can be very noisy!

An oasis of calm and peace in close proximity to the M25 and the business of life....

Chorleywood House Estate is a 170 acre Local Nature Reserve in Chorleywood in Hertfordshire. It is owned and managed by Three Rivers District Council. It was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 2007. In 2009 the Chorleywood House Estate was granted the prestigious Green Flag Award as one of the best green spaces in the country. This has been renewed each year since then.
The Estate is absolutely beautiful and leads down to the Chess Valley along which the River Chess runs. Delightfully peaceful despite the proximity to the M25.

Autumn Visit

Absolutely loved this place. Set in a stunning location with lots of beautiful walks. It's a favourite of dog walkers but it's also great if you just want some fresh air and beautiful surroundings.

Beautiful walk

The grounds are beautiful and even on a wet rainy day, the walk to river Chess was stunning. Well maintained and free parking.

Lovely park with many facilities
Oct 2017
Huge grounds surrounding Chorleywood House, offering tennis courts, a lovely memorial garden, signposted walks down to the River Chess and even a children's woodland grotto with amazing wood carvings of animals. The house itself is not accessible but by arrangement it is possible to see the garden playhouse of Lady Ela Russell, a sister of the Duke of Bedford, who owned the house and lived in it for decades in the early 20th century. The estate is off the main A404 Rickmansworth Road opposite the cricket ground. There is plenty of parking.

Excellent place to walk the dog or take a country walk
May 2017 • Couples
This is a lovely estate which is owned and operated by the local authority. Car parking is free and there are lovely sign posted walks through the countryside which take you down through wooded areas to the River Chess. The walks do contain some uphill and downhill sections and these areas do not offer wheelchair access. Great for dog walkers (we met quite a few) and family walks.

Beautiful Country Park
Mar 2017 • Family
Extensive area with tennis courts, formal gardens, wild flowers, woods, the river Chess, etc. The wood carvings around the pond must not be missed. A haven next to the M25!

A hidden delight
Nov 2016 • Solo
Wheelchair friendly, child and dog friendly. Lovely open grassed areas, woodland, even a chalk stream (although this is rather difficult for small children and impossible for prams or wheelchairs, as it is a steep drop down woodland paths, and equally steep trying to get back up again)
