We were downtown in Campeche after dining and heard a live band in the square just before the Promenade. Rumor had it that there would be a water display with music on the walkway along the beach. So we went.
Here we were in midJanuary getting lightly sprinkled by the wind blowing water our way while we watched a fabulous display of water jets that were synchronized with various bits of music and different splashes of color as the jets went up, spiraled out, and took on other shapes. Everyone sat upon a built-in concrete arena and clapped and sang and had a very good time.

The malecon stretches for miles and is expanding. The water has little activates because the it's not accessible from the malecon. Notwithstanding, it's a great place to stroll with your families and watch people.
Very few buildings directly attached to the malecon, but this appears to be changing with the occasional restaurant being built.

The Malecon de Campeche refers to the 7km of waterfront promenade in Campeche.
As previous reviewers have point out it is a little bit bare - with little shade coverage and only a couple of things to view.
It’s main function seems to be as open space to allow people to exercise either by walking or cycling.
Two points of interest are located on the malecon adjacent to the walled city centre - the first is the coloured ‘Campeche’ sign which serves as an excellent photo opportunity. The second (not sure of the name) is a tall pole adorned with what looks like an angel with wings. It’s located adjacent to the Campeche sign and seems to be where people cluster for sunset (which occurs over the Gulf of Mexico). Realistically anywhere along the malecon would be fine for sunset.
Didn’t feel dangerous walking along here at all.
There were some restaurants across the highway as you walked west.

We walked most of Campeche's very nice makecon, and it was nearly empty! The pelican poop/fish smell is a little ripe if you go to where the fishing boats are tied up, but most of the way, it's beautiful. They have both bike and walking lanes, and are continuing construction of further sections to the southern end.
Great breeze all the way off the Gulf.

I loved the Malecon.
I mostly hungout under the Mayan Angel to watch the incredible sunsets every single night. Without fail there was an AMAZING sunset.
There is also a nightly dancing waterfall show to the left of the Mayan Angel every night at 8pm.
I walked a lot of it and there was interesting things to look at nice areas to sit, people watch and just relax.
Is it must do, No, but if you just want a relaxing enjoyable place to be then this is it.

This walking area by the sea is very pleasant in the late afternoon once the sun is going down. If you try to walk it in the middle of the day, as I did, you may get heatstroke. It's hot and very exposed with virtually no shade and a wide avenue separating you from any indoor spaces. No restaurants or bars on this walk, just sculptures, and the colorful Campeche sign.

The Malecon is Campeche's seafront that stretches for kilometers. Well maintained with walking areas, palm trees and monuments. Famous for its sunsets which however we enjoyed just before entering the city while in the morning wind and clouds discouraged the walk.

Malecon de Campeche is an excellent and beautifully maintained walking, running, and biking path along the water in the small pastel-colored town on the Yucatan Peninsula.
The 7-kilometer opportunity for easy, daily exercise was one of the reasons we chose to stay a whole 14 days in Campeche during our one-year journey around the world. We love our morning walks.
In the early morning hours, there are quite a few people exercising on the promenade, but from 9 am, you practically have it to yourself.
In the early evening, many people come again to enjoy the sunset.
Along the way, you can enjoy the sight of albatrosses resting and fishing. A couple of dogs often lie sleeping in the sun on the path. There are fishermen chatting and selling their catch. And at one end (to the right if you're facing the water), there are a handful of restaurants with a view of the water.

We walked about 2 miles of it, past some of the beautiful statues and past the signature CAMPECHE signage and then back to the water fountain light show. Bundle up for the wind and spray back. I didn't walk all the way down to the seafood restaurants but I timed it to see the sunset from the malecon and it was nice. It is easy to walk and not terribly busy. There are crepes and corn available from food carts but no tacos, etc as I had hoped. Good experience and we're from coastal California.

This promenade continues for kilometres and has bike and pedestrian paths along the way. There are also exercise stations scattered around as well. It would be great to run/cycle along here. We came here at night and didn't venture too much further than where the 8:30pm waterfall display is.
Now the next part of the review is dedicated just to the fountain show. I couldn't find anything online about it, otherwise I would have created a separate review for it.
There is a fountain display that comes on every night on the Malecon at 8:30pm and thus is must see. We didn't know exactly where to go but found it eventually. There are stands to view the fountain from, however without the lights on it is easy to miss. It is also cross the road from the Parque de Moch Couoh. The display goes on for a full 30min and is synched to a soundtrack of various pop and operatic songs. It is a spectacle and better than the 5min display that we saw back at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Hello,
Thank you for posting your information. I look forward to a 10 day trip to Campeche City. I am a road bike enthusiast. I would like to rent a road bike in Campeche (as opposed to a cruising bike). does anyone know if there is a bike shop that rents road bikes in Campeche?
Thank you so very much for taking the time to answer my inquiry.
