Saint Martin in our opinion doesn't have the most beautiful Caribbean Beaches compering to the neighbor Anguilla o St Barth but for sure Pinel Island is the best beach of the Island. To reach the island is just 10 mins by ferry and the price is 10$ return. On the beach there are 2 restaurant ( a little bit pricy ) and a few sunbeds but you can just lay on the beach with your own towel. We spent a few days here and unfortunately the last ferry is at 5pm which is a little bit too early since is the heavy traffic time on the island once you get off the ferry.

    A great day trip
This was one of my favorite parts of our visit to St. Martin. We visited with my 2 young kids in search of calm waters and it was better than we imagined. The boat ride over is 12 euro per person and they didn't charge us for our kids. The restaurant on the island was exceptional. The swimming was great and the service was great. We didn't reserve any chairs or boat in advance and everything was easy and seamless. Also, get the lobster!

    Sunny days at Isle Pinel
As usual a great day on Isle Pinel. Be sure to check out geocaching as a new way to enjoy the island. Water was much clearer than a few years ago for snorkeling but with waves made it too choppy to get as much done. Will take a whole yet perhaps for the reef to re-establish after the 2017 hurricane. Beach staff were great as was the ferry staff. Get there on the first few shuttles if you want good front row chairs and check the online cruise schedule to pick a day with fewer cruise ships.

    A Saturday on Pinel Island
A very relaxing day. Took the Emile B. Larmont ferry to the island, a 10-minute ride. Got off the boat rented some great beach seats and enjoyed waiter service for food and drink. Great snorkeling and a very relaxed atmosphere. Would do it again when in St. Martin.

Pinel Island, the View is worth it!
The views were amazing, there are two small beach restaurants with each chairs for rent. You can snorkel or just relax. One side of the island is very secluded for topless or even nude sunbathing if you dare and the snorkeling is really amazing on that side as well, it’s a very short hike over on a beaten path. The views from the top of the hill are very pretty. There is a ferry over that cost $12 round trip and runs every 30 minutes or you can rent a kayak as well but it’s a fair ways away.

    Loved It
We kayaked over to Pinel Island which was such a memorable experience. Took us about 30 minutes each way. You can rent the kayak right next to the Pinel Island ferry for a pretty penny. Apparently there are sea turtles in the water between the main land and Pinel island but we didn't see any Pinel Island itself was fun and different. The waiters/"beach boys" as Karabuni called them on the beach were so funny and charming and carried so many drinks!!! Impressive to watch and entertaining. We rented 2 chairs and an umbrella for $25 from karabuni and enjoyed laying and relaxing. This was a very expensive day because we ordered drinks and ate at the restaurant after. Make a reservation at the restaurant before hand. And if you want to have chairs in the front row by the water, get there early. We got there a little before 11 and were about 3 rows back from the water.

    Don't miss the iguanas!
We had planned to canoe over, but ended up stopping as a part of our full-day St. Maarten boat tour with Billy Bones Boatcharters. Because most people come over by ferry or kayak, they're there for a good bit of the day, and eat, drink, and lie in the sun there. We had lunch elsewhere and drinks on the boat, so we pretty much just stopped in for a short visit, but we're glad we did. (Highly recommend Billy Bones, by the way - Captain Boy gave us a great day where we truly saw it all!) There's a small gift shop, and as you face the shop, to your right is an area where the iguanas are hidden in the brush during the heat of the day. But as people came in the area bringing food, the iguanas ventured out, and it was a little bit of excitement as they ran to people who had food (or made sounds that indicated they might have food). Perhaps next time we'll spend longer there, but it looked like there was very little shade, so we'll plan accordingly (hat, rash guard, and plan to stay cool in the water).

Visit Pinel Island Before You Leave
We really enjoyed Pinel Island. We took a quick, (5 minute), boat ride to Pinel Island. The travel there was so beautiful. I loved watching the hills as we arrived. The island is small, but so beautiful! Goodness, it was beautiful! The water was crystal clear and the sand was white. I did get bit up more there, so I recommend bug spray or a band. We ate at Karibuni, one of two restaurants on the island. Our server was Aneiese, (not sure I am spelling this correctly), but she was amazing. Really helped us select the best options. A few in our group ordered a lobster and got to pick it right from the ocean. We sat at a little bar/hut and some of us swam in the ocean. It was a really nice end to our trip in St. Martin.

    Perfect Day at Pinel!
Beautiful little island! We booked a Kayak from Caribbean Paddling and kayaked instead of riding the ferry over. Then we reserved 2 chairs and an umbrella ($25) for the day. The chair waiters brought drinks all day - which is exactly what we wanted! We brought our own snorkel gear and snorkeled the beautiful reefs. We also ate lunch at the restaurant. The water is a beautiful blue and the sand is white. What more could you ask for? Do not miss this gem!

Pinel island is overrated. The only nice thing there are two beach bars, other than that there is nothing to do. The beach is dirty, there is a small part for swimming but the rest of the shore is full of seaweed. Forget about snorkeling here. I would not recommend visiting

Nothing but an expensive beach with expensive food and drinks. The beach is minimally useful
for swimming if you are not a small child. Lots of seaweed and sea grass close into shore, so unless you just want to spend $12 a person just to ferry out there for over-priced food and small watered down drinks go to one of the other lovely beaches on this gorgeous little island.

Absolutely gorgeous and worth the trip. We rented kayaks from Caribbean Paddling to get to the island - about 20 min there and 15 min back. We were able to see some sea turtles on the way and stopped at Little Key and a sandbar - both worth the stops!
We rented chairs and had lunch and drinks from Yellow Beach - food, drinks, service was amazing. It was crowded, but we expected that. We ventured over to the North side of the island which was pristine and untouched. The water was choppy and rough, but the snorkeling was much better.
Our favorite part of our trip, so far!

A beautiful island to explore!!

We kayaked over. It was about a 20 minute trip for fit adults. We experienced some strong winds and currents. Nothing crazy!Make a reservation. We saw people turned away! CaribbeanPaddling.com

We hiked to the other side of the island. It was a short hike but there are some rocky areas. I was glad to have strap on shoes.
Beautiful desolate beach!
There is a little more hiking you can do… but our drinks were waiting! 😉

We reserved beach chairs through Karibuni.
Great spot! Drink service to the chairs.

We made a reservation at Karibuni for lunch. It was delicious!! I picked my lobster out of the trap!

And then back to the chairs!

There are TONS of hermit crabs on the island. Find a speedy guy and have a race!!
(My guy won!)

There’s a little shop with nice items. Not tacky souvenirs!

We stayed all day! 😎

We went to pinel island for beach and snorkeling. First, the ferry. Trash everywhere. In the water and land, broken parts on piers. Employees rude. They were eating lunch on pier and completely ignoring everyone that came up. Finally walked up and had to interrupt them because they wouldn’t acknowledge me. Poor customer service.

Second, the island. Beautiful water and beach. The left side of the beach, facing the water was the “nude” side. 2 restaurants both pretty expensive. Pina coladas were very good. They have lobsters in cages in the surf that you can pick and they cook them for $40/lb. They do take credit cards at restaurants/bars. Bartender was great.
Overall a good trip and would go again.

We enjoyed our trip to the island

We didn’t go with plans of doing what you can do anywhere in St Maarten, sitting on a beach. Instead, we chose to explore and hike around the island. It was fantastic! Put on some good shoes, bring a snack and some water and enjoy the scenery and views. A highlight of our trip, had an incredible afternoon walking all over the island.

Pinel Island was a fun part of our vacation. We took the ferry over and then walked over the hill following an easy to see path, about 10-15 minutes to the other undeveloped side of the island away from the restaurants and family swimming area. The other side is very open to the elements (Sun and wind) so you have to bring some shade, water, and some snacks. The remote side was a little rough to swim and it was difficult to enter the water due to waves and rocks. Not the best for swimming as it can be rough. We did go nude on this side and there were several couples and a family with teen aged kids as well all enjoying no clothing sunbathing and beach fun. Please if you think your kids or spouse will self combust and be damaged for life if they see people nude dont take the hike over the island to the undeveloped side. If you are good with people in their skin and you want to join in it was a good time and worth the trip over...

The side you arrive at on the ferry has two restaurants, both very good, bathrooms, shade, chairs to rent, and a nice calm flat bay to swim in. Great for families with kids, no nudity is allowed here and its a great time for all!

You can stay in the bay where you get dropped off and see seagrass and fish, but if you go around the rocks to the left, you'll get to the real reefs. I saw it all, sea fans, tons of fish, sea urchins, soft corals and hard corals. Some corals were filter feeding and healthy. Saw Elkhorn, fire, brain corals, some quite large. Highly recommend! My only problem was at yellow Beach when two Americans were being HELLA loud!! Kinda ruined the vibe, but they finally shut up and back to beauty. Staff at yellow Beach were super helpful and not pushy at all.
