We came here on a catamaran tour and, if I were to do it again, I would have just hired a boat to take us directly here to spend the entire day. It's close to the main island, and much less crowded than Pinel. There are no restaurants/facilities in the island, which makes it feel like you're right in the middle of nature. Not only does it have a great beach, but also reefs for snorkeling and an amazing view of St. Martin.

We drove to the harbor of Cul de Sac, and met the ferryman and his wife. The next morning, we were on a boat for the ten minute trip out to this serene island. The charge was $20 round trip, and he comes back for you whenever you want. We brought snorkels. Saw a dozen or more people. It's really beautiful.

If you do only one excursion in St. Martin, you must make the trip to Tintamarre on the Celine with Capt. Neil. It is not just the destination, it is who you go with. Having been to St. Martin many times and having taken many excursions, there and elswhere, there is no doubt that this 10+ hour day trip is worth every penny and then some. From the moment you board to find fresh croissants, quiche, fruit and juice, you can see that this trip is going to be special. Catering to a dozen or so people, Neil & Patrick make you feel like family throughout the day.
Sail out of the lagoon thruogh the draw bridge on the French side and enjoy the beautiful coast on the way to Tintamarre, a lovely, uninhabited island where you can walk the beach & swim. Work up an appetite because Neil is preparing lunch on baord, a meal that is absolutely exquisite and worthy of a good restaurant, A plentiful spread of seafood paella, ribs, pan fried Mahi Mahi, pasta salad, and more is beautifully presented upon your return to the boat. After lunch, the trip moves on to Creole Rock, which is probably St. Martin's best snorkle spot. Last stop is Happy Bay where everyone indulges in a mud bath.
As you return to the starting point, a platter of fresh fruit is passed around and as a parting toast, Patrick passes around a tray of BBC's (Bailey's, banana, colada?). I may not remeber what was in it, but it was good!
This was a truly a perfect day and experience. Clearly Capt. Neil strives for and attains a standard that is unrivaled by the larger, day-trip operators.
I could go on with more detail but the message cannot be better conveyed than by saying that this trip is simply, the best & should not be missed.

What a wonderful way to spend the day in St Maarten! The day began early at Skipjack's Restaurant in Simpson Bay. This is where you meet and sail away for your adventure on the Celine with Neil and Patrick. You are greeted with a delicious breakfast of pastries, quiches, yogurt, bread, jam, coffee, juices, as well as many other beverages while beginning the sail to Tintamarre. The ocean was smooth as glass on this day. Know this is not always the case, but it was for us. Many great photo opportunities along the way. It was a total of 15 passengers. Captain Neil likes to keep the numbers low so that everyone has a great experience with plenty of room to move around.
Once at the island, you could swim ashore, float on a noodle, or be transported via the dinghy by Patrick, who also brings all your stuff over along with umbrellas and a cooler full of drinks. The water is gorgeous here and the sand is so soft!
While we were enjoying the island, Neil prepared a feast for us. Ribs, mahi mahi, green salad, pasta salad , potato salad, paella, and garlic bread. All made onboard the boat. Wow, was it amazing!
After this, we were on our way to Creole Rock for snorkeling. Beautiful water with lots of fish. Saw two turtles and a barracuda! Patrick dove down and brought up things for us to see.
Next, we were on our way to Happy Bay. On the boat we a had a mud bath. Makes your skin feel so smooth. Jumped in the water to wash it off. Now this made for some interesting pictures!!
On our way back home we were treated to a lovely tray of fruit-pineapple, strawberries, oranges, grapes, and kiwi. Yummy!
Due to an upcoming neck surgery, my husband did not go with me on this daysail. I was made to feel welcomed from the start. We will definitely do this on our next visit together. Such a fantastic day!

We used this site to visit Tintamarre. Pictures do not do this beach justice. Liron the owner of the boat is from France originally, can speak pretty good English and had a very easy going personality. This is the way it works. You call his number, you tell him what day and time you would like to go and leave. You meet at the Cul de Sac pier and takes about 10 minutes. Just the round trip is 17 euros. We chose the add on picnic. His wife prepares the meal prep. He brings the supplies to start the barbecue . He brought 2 umbrellas, a bag of beach toys, volleyball, etc. Theres a cooler of drinks that consists of water, Heineken, rose wine, rum, coca cola , etc. Another cooler with marinated chicken/ribs, potato salad, potato chips, a loaf of French bread, a pan of brownies, I believe that was all. It was all tasty and we enjoyed. We paid 50 euros a person for all this. We stayed 4 hrs but could have chosen longer. We were the only ones on the beach for about half of that time. It was gorgeous and really a great deal and service from a really lovely couple.

We took a 4 hour snorkeling tour with Captain Alan's to Tintamarre Island. It was so worth it! Snorkeling on one side we were able to see the sea turtles feeding on the grasses and the stunning beach. On the other side was a nature reserve and we snorkled through the coral reef. This was the highlight of our stay in St. Martin!

You MUST take a trip to Tintamarre while on St. Maarten/St. Martin! Wonderful snorkeling opportunities await you in an unspoiled location. An excellent place to visit while on a catamaran charter or however you wish to get there...a must see.

Took Catamaran from oyster pond to Tintamerre (PYC Charter)....30 minute sail trip to island. Great snorkeling to see turtles and fish....not great for coral. Swam to shore where the beach was unspoiled and deserted. FYI - No facilities or food available on island.

I was visiting St. Maarten alone and I wanted to do something different. this being my 4th visit to the island, I knew many places and beaches, but I had never been to Tintemarre, so I decided to get there somehow. I asked for pricing for the catamarans that leave from Orient Bay Beach, but it was too expensive. Then I heard about the Celine and Captain Neil. The trip turned out to be one of the best deals I have gotten in the Caribbean. At the time I went there, it was $110 (low season) and it included the trip in their very nice catamaran, breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack (as well as an open bar). The excursion lasted from 7 am until 6 pm, or so. The breakfast and afternoon snack were all great, but the lunch was fantastic. I have to say that Captain Neil and his assistant were fantastic hosts and I was lucky enough to spend the afternoon with four other very nice fellow passengers. Finally, I have to say that Tintemarre was everything I was hoping for: a deserted, pristine and spectacular beach surrounded by fantastic water, we saw a turtle and a stingray, but snorkeling was better in the afternoon, when the excursion takes you snorkeling. At such a reasonable amount of money, this has got to be the best deal in the island, and the experience itself would be worth much more, to be fair. I will go back next time I am in St. Maarten.

Is it possible to buy a ticket for a boat that will take me to the island and then come back for me to take me back at the end of the day? Or is it only possible to book a tour there?

Merci bcp!

Hello, you mention that its an hour ride and its a rough one. Would you recommend someone going from Anguilla instead? How does it compare to Prickley Pear?
Written 2 September 2016
My ride to Tintamare was not rough at all, but I was on a 51 ft catamaran. Typical ocean currents. The ride to Prickly Pear and Anguilla about the same. But if you go all the way around Anguilla the waters are a bit rough on the windward side at times. A lot has to do with the size of your boat and the speed you are traveling. And of course the weather and time of day.
