Stopped here on our way to Matera. Lovely old town just make sure you eat before 1pm as everything closes for a long siesta. The Gravine was spectacular with a few houses still... read more

Stopped here on our way to Matera. Lovely old town just make sure you eat before 1pm as everything closes for a long siesta. The Gravine was spectacular with a few houses still occupied. There is a viaduct that you can walk across but sadly we did not have time.

We heard that Massafra was really authentic and very special and arranged through the tourist office for a private tour (it turned out to be led by the woman who works in the tourist office herself). We walked to 3 amazing cave churches in the town that are not open to the public and the sites had to be opened... More
