A little outside of Ravenna is the Basilica di Sant'Apollinare en Classe. After a day of touring Ravenna, it is tempting to pass by this mosaic gem. We recommend you fight that temptation. It really is the final stop for mosaic tourism, as no where...More

Our little group of Prinsendam cruisers has followed Silvia Belletti into the church to learn about the artwork. At the Sarcophagus of Archbishop Theodorus she tells us the Peacocks on the lid are eternal life. The sheeps and cross with Alpha and Omega on the...More

Well worth the trip out from Ravenna if you have a car (or by bike) Beautiful church in very peaceful surroundings. Fantastic mosaics of sheep (on thee theme of the Lord as My Shepherd).

Attended the Mass whilst appreciating it's stunning architecture. The mosaics inside the church are glorious and in August/September time there is a brilliant light show projected onto the walls outside.

For my day trip to Ravenna from Bologna, I decided to start with the touted sight furthest away, the Basilica of San Apollinaire en Classe, about 20 minutes from the train station on the #4 bus. One of the most striking features is the amount...More

Though a friend said he liked this one best, I went to this one first because it was closest and I didn't necessarily agree that it was the best. The Ravenna area UNESCO sites are primarily Byzantine sites from around roughly 400-800AD after Rome had...More

There is not a specific guided tour of this Church, but you can buy a cumulative ticket that allows you to visit this Church + National Museum of Ravenna (+ Mausoleo of Teodorico as third option). Regards
