Amazing scenery to be seen while navigating the Whanganui River, with basically untouched bush alongside the water. Lots of interesting low grade rapids make the journey fun. Pick up and drop off included, does require a bit of a drive to get in and out, and can be tricky to work out where to stop :-)

I did the 3 day trip with my partner, his father and brother during February '17- I am a total novice and although I got pretty damp on occasions I was rather impressed with myself that I stayed in the boat at all times! Our guide, Reina, was an absolute star - a totally relaxed and friendly guy with great... More

This first part of my review is not about the Trip itself it is about the Whanganui River Canoes company. WRC provided us with a canadian canoe for our 3 day trip on the river. Getting to Raetihi, we went straight to the holiday camp, which is also the "HQ" of the WRC. Well, everything is there but the professional... More

Got on the jet at Piririki and rode up to the bridge to nowhere. Walked in for a picnic at the bridge. After walking back to the river rode the jet back down so far and then took a canadian canoe the rest of the way. Awesome day, thanks Shane for the ride and the information shared.

We booked our canoe hire here and stayed at the campsite at the beginning and end of the trip. The campsite was terrific, the staff excellent, equipment great and the safety briefing thorough. The briefing included a full weather forecast for the days we were away and all the instruction needed for a safe trip. Would recommend and would go... More

Worked for this company as a side job when I was in the area guiding. Loved the approach to safety, communication with the other companies that this organisation had.

Had a great trip this last week. Was a bit nervous about doing the freedom canoe hire, but everything went incredibly well ! Myself and my friend had minimal/limited previous experience, having only done kayaking 10 years ago on a high school camp, and after watching the videos we managed to navigate the journey and remain in the boat the... Went on this adventure for a family holiday - Mum, Dad and three lads (aged 17-21). Had booked for the 2 day option where we got picked up at the 'Bridge to Nowhere' landing by jet boat. Went on the understanding that our briefing included on water practice as per the website: "We provide you with a full safety briefing,... More

Hi Jo, thank you for attempting a canoe trip with us, and for taking the time to place a review. It is a real shame that you did not enjoy your trip. We took the three day guided tour of the Whanganui River, through Whanganui River canoes, travelling as a couple with our son and daughter-in-law. This was a trip we had anticipated from an earlier trip by jet boat to the Bridge to Nowhere and having watched people canoeing down the river. Ben and Rebecca and their team did an excellent...
