This is a UNESCO site. The fortress overlooks the scenic landscape of Jinvali Reservoir and surrounding mountains. It is usually a pit stop on the way up north to Kazbegi / Stepantsminda. Try planning the trip to this fortress on a sunny day with clear skies if you wish to snap beautiful photos.

While I was walking from one church to another in Mtskheta,I’d been looking at photos of Ananuri a couple days earlier and trying to figure out how to get there. I found out that in Didube station there are buses to kazbegi with 10 lary fee which will pass by ananuri castle and lake. so i took that bus next... More

Nice architecture of the fortress. But get ready if you want to reach the top of the tower as it needs lungs and legs and good hand grip.

One of the most beautiful corners of Georgia. Everything is amazing here. The monastery itself is very nice, with special style. But the nature around is just amazing. The ambiance of the monastery with the lake and mountains.... Visit this place if even you have only 3-4 days in Georgia. Also don`t hesitate to climb the tower, you will have... More

The location is on the way to Kazbegi area. I got an amazing picture from murder hole/tower window. Just watch out your step as the stairway is too narrow.

Ananuri Fortress is a little different than most historic monuments. There is no entrance fee, no tickets, no explanatory signs, no tours, no roped off sections and no guard rails. You can really get up close to everything and really explore. That said, it’s so unmonitored, that there are people climbing on everything even in obviously dangerous places. Our guide... More

This review is quite late. We stopped at the Ananuri Fortified Castle Ensemble on our way to Kazbegi. We were given 20 minutes to explore the area. The surrounding hills and the Jinvali Reservoir added up to the beauty of this place. There was a refreshment store and some souvenir stalls selling overpriced items along the road.

Stunning views from this place. One can also choose to go up the tower. However, will need to beware of the steps. Also, one can only take picture through the small "arrow" holes as the top of the tower doesn't offer panorama view...

The Fortress located on the Georgian Military Road is set in an excellent location with good views across the neighbouring reservoir and surrounding hills. The Watchtower provides and interesting focal point and there is one other well maintained tower worth seeing. Obe of the two churches is not open, but the other is still used. Both are fine examples wrll... More
