Pedra do Sino ("bell stone") is the highest peak (2.275m) of Serra dos Órgãos and offers you spetacular views of the many beautiful surrounding peaks and up to the city of Rio de Janeiro in a clear day.
The peak is in Serra dos Órgãos National Park, in the city of Teresópolis, about 100km from Rio de Janeiro city center.
The trail: It's an easy -- but VERY long -- walk until the top. More than 10km, usually more than 3 hours in a good pace (not rushing) each way. Do not go if you're not used to long walks.
Lenght: You can do it in a single day (arrive early -- 8 am -- to do that) or you can spend a night in a basic lodge very close to the peak (15 min.), or even camp in the lodge area. Check prices and reservation with the National Park before you go (the lodge is usually full in fridays and saturdays during the winter season)
Money: Price to the trail in jun/12 was R$ 30 for brazilians and R$ 55 for foreigners for a single day. It's more expensive (but not the double) if you stay there 2 days.
When to go: Winter days are usually clearer -- but always check the weather before you go. You may see nothing at the peak in a cloudy day.
Who is able to go: Anyone in good shape.

My husband and I decided to hike to Pedra do SIno as part of our holiday in Rio de Janeiro last month. It was the highlight of our trip. We really enjoyed the national park, it's wildlife and tranquility away from the city. Our guide Guto (http://riodeguto.weebly.com) made the trek run very smoothly, and was very knowledgable. A refreshing break from usual tour guides, he was like having a personal friend who knew all the best places, and tailored our trip to suit us, without even asking! The views at sunrise were spectacular, carefully calculated by Guto. We would recommend using Guto for your trip to RIo.

I spent Spectacular night sleeping on the peak.
4 hours (1300m elevation) trekking to the top. Amazing nature. Amazing views. Trek is a piece of cake.

Serra dos orgaos national park is close to rio de janeiro city, beautiful hike, or trekking, as you wish.
Great views of Baia da guanabara from Pedra do sino summit on clear days.
I love this place, always I'm tired I go there, I come back a better person.
There are some facilities in the top, there is a hut where you can pay for beds or a shower .
You camp too.

Despite its boring and graceless trail, the top really worth the effort to get there. Remember to carry your lunch and enjoy the view while having it. It's superb.

We did the Pedra do Sino trail in a round trip. We went at a lighter pace, but we had to speed up a lot on the way back, and we arrived in the dark (bring a flashlight). The total journey lasted 10:30. Based on the reviews we read before going, we thought we were physically prepared to take on this adventure. However, we concluded that they were made by people who are already on another level of trails. The park's signage is terrible, almost non-existent. Some points have forks, dense vegetation, and many trail areas are quite narrow. In moments of doubt, we guided ourselves using the map that we saved on our cell phone before going. We were outraged by the lack of signage on the route, if you don't take some digital resources you won't be able to find your way around, you won't have much idea of what you've covered and you'll easily get lost. There are signs at shelters 3, 4 and at the bride's veil waterfall, in other words, practically nothing. The view from the bell rock is wonderful, a unique moment, but we didn't have time to enjoy it much. If we return, it will be to spend the night at the top, enjoying that immeasurable view. Shelter 4 is deactivated, there is only camping option at the moment. Finally: hire a guide or use a great digital locator and get ready, the trail is not easy for beginners.

Não,até o chuveiro era a gás.leve mais de um celular ou economize a bateria na subida para tirar fotos lá em cima.Recomendo ir tirando fotos e vídeos no meio do caminho,e ir desligando o aparelho.

A trilha é bem marcada. Acredito q alguem com experiência em trilhas não precisa dr guia.
