Amazing experience, it’s just simply beautiful. The water level depends on the tide level so if you want to go for a swim go during high tide. The hike is challenging at some parts so good footwear is a must for your own safety. Some parts look scary but it’s actually manageable just don’t rush thighs and you’ll be fine. Highly recommended.

Take old trainers with you that you will use for this climb and maybe an old T-shirt too, you will be completely dirty after the tour. I saw some people in flip flops. Most of them turn back and barefoot it is extremely slippery and painful on the rocks. Walking is all just a question of comfort and, above all, safety. The climb is relatively easy, but you have to go back down to sea level on the other side. I was here in September when it rains almost every day. The descent to the lagoon is correspondingly slippery. There are ropes stretched out at the difficult sections that you can use as climbing aids. The Princess Lagoon is fed by sea water and is therefore dependent on the tides. Someone wrote here that it is a pond with too little water because it doesn't rain. What nonsense. I was there at around 11:30 and the water was just above my knees. At 2 p.m. the water was up to my shoulders, standing up at a height of 183cm. Make sure you get there around midday when the lagoon is completely illuminated by the sun. Take something to drink with you. It's simply wonderful. Do it anyway. It's an unforgettable experience.

The lagoon is absolutely beautiful. It was fairly busy when we got there so would recommend trying to get there as early as it’s light really. The hike there is almost more like a scramble/climb. If you aren’t physically able to lift yourself etc I would recommend the hike and there are some parts you have to climb/lower yourself with rope. We really enjoyed the hike and the lagoon again was beautiful. Probably my favourite thing I’ve done at Railay!

The lagoon hike is something everybody should do. It is real adventure. When finished u have done something epic. You walk through 280 million years of time as you go down to the lagoon. Meet other adventurist people along the way. Good shoes slippery after rain. Have fun

Be prepared for a long hike with a lot of challenging climbing and sweat! The lake is a beautiful place, but it is very muddy and difficult to reach and get around. The water is cold and nice to swim in, but not deep and the ground is sharp.
Go, but go prepared! Dont wear white clothes or flip flops😋

We did the lagoon and viewpoint walk yesterday.
The hike up to start the walk is a warm up for what is to come. There are 2 routes at the top the left one is to the viewpoint which is leisurely and loops back round to the descent for the lagoon.
We asked a few people on the way up what the lagoon is like and they didn’t make it out to be that hard but when we got there were 3 ledges you had to scale down that were quite the difficult.
It was nice at the bottom but I would not suggest doing this if you do not like climbing or heights

After hiking to the viewpoint the lagoon is only a few hundred metres extra BUT the way to it is down fairly large, sometimes vertical rock faces where you have to make use of ropes of questionable quality and maintenance.
Only recommended if you're OK with heights, rocks and ropes as you have no safety gear.
Going down is scarier than coming up but its worth the walk IF you're fit and brave enough.

A great place once you're there. I wouldn't really call it a path, there are only short sections where you can walk normally. Extremely strenuous and, in my opinion, dangerous are several vertical walls where you have to abseil (on the way there) and then climb back up again using the ropes. It was really brutal and I'm no wimp. If you're not really fit and don't like climbing, you shouldn't do it, it's not a normal hike. I wouldn't recommend the tour if it's (previously) rained. Sturdy shoes are important, afterwards everything is completely dirty and sweaty.
The lagoon is quite muddy, but very beautiful. Unfortunately I didn't have any sun when I was there, the atmosphere is probably even nicer then. Don't go at low tide, because then there's no lagoon.

We have visited Panang Beach and this lagoon several times over the years! The Lagoon area and the adjacent sandy beaches are some of the most beautiful we have seen in the world! This is my favorite place in all of Thailand! This lagoon is not the one that you need to climb over the mountain to get there. It is the lagoon at the end of a walking trail that leads from the other side of Railay Beach to the ferry boats docking area. It was an easy walk from our Railay Beach resort too.

From the road to Phra Nang beach there is the climb to the view point over Railay and down the lagoon. It is better to go with good weather, because it is not a road for everyone, you have to climb on the rocks. You better go with sport shoes or bare feet, I saw people in flip flops but that's just stupid. If you have no experience it's better not to go, but if you love mountains you don't need to be a climber (like the ones on the beach) and it's very funny and maybe you will love more the road than the lagoon itself.

Generally it is full in the rainy season, which is when it is the best colour apparently.
For daily tide times, I guess you could check online for tide tables? One of the google searches for Tide table Railay beach brought up a tide forecast for Krabi.

Does anyone know if the Lagoon is closed? Anyone recently been there?
We went on that climb to the Railay viewpoint and lagoon but signs on the trail to the lagoon indicate that it’s closed. Locals told us it was open but a tourist said it was closed due to rainy season. Thanks!
Written 30 June 2019
You can get there if you ignore the signs. But the thai people removed the rope en therefore the last part of the climb is not to do without professionel climbing gear.

Hi everyone! I'm travelling to Krabi in november and doing this is at the top of my list! I have a few questions that need answering;
1. How do we get here from ao nang? Our hotel is in Ao nang.
2. What time should we start hiking?
3. Roughly how long does it take to hike and climb to get to the lagoon?
4. Anything else we need to be aware of?
I know that it is dangerous and that we need suitable outfit.

-Longtail Boat from various jettys in A N
-Not really about time, more about weather.
-Set aside 20mins-45mins
-Footwear is crucial and the lookout point can get very crowded
