This is an excellent view of the mountains and worth a quick stop if you are on your way from Tbilisi to Kakheti to try some wines. There are so many great places in Georgia with views of the Caucasus Mountains, but this is a nice one too.

This is the shortest and more interesting road from Tbilisi to Telavi and beyond. The tarred road is rather new but already damaged. There is little traffic to encounter but the road is very twisty. In the winter the road is often closed due to the snow. The views from the top (over 1.600 meters!) are great - if the weather is good.

Gombori pass in an alternative way to reach Kakheti Region main city Telavi. This is shorter, than the main road via Gurjaani. Gombori pass is well known for its picturesque landscape. The curve mountain road is wonderful throughout whole year, but the most beautiful is spring and autumn. If you don't have problems with endless turns or drastic changes of elevation and air pressure, then Gombori road is your road of choice to Kakheti. The pass itself peaks at 1620 meters above sea level.

As a small tour group we travelled the Gombori Pass from Kutarsi to Sighnaghi (a town within the Kakheti region).

The Pass is steep in parts, with many acute angled curves, narrow in sections. If driving yourself, drive to the conditions, which can change depending on the season.

Beautiful scenery along the route, part of the Caucasus Mountain Range, up to an altitude of 1,620 meters above sea level.

We stopped at a popular lookout for photos and then ventured across the road to a "coffee hut" which had a great atmosphere and good coffee! International bank notes pinned to the ceiling indicated that this stop is a favorite with tour groups.

A toast to Georgia, courtesy of a beer provided by the owner, was one of those moments, unexpected on your tour, that you will remember as part of your overall experience.

Exceptional views from several other vantage spots along the route.

A memorable part of our trip in Georgia.

We trekked on this pass on November morning, after a night in a shelter nearby. Not much snow, in oposite to warnings by Park rangers. What a view! No people were around, no animals, only some bears tracks. A silence broken only by few birds. I will go there again for sure.

The shortest route from the capital to Telavi goes through this magnificent mountain pass. Although 1620 m above the sea level is by no means considered very high by local standards, landscapes visible from here are undoubtedly great.
Driving in this area requires additional precaution in foggy weather.

Nice view. We made it during a pass from Stefasminda to Telavi.
Better to have an AWD or 4x4.

It has huge turns. Be careful with trucks.

One of the most beautiful roads. It only takes app. 1 hour from Tbilisi to Telavi. You can easily get to Old Shuamta or New Shuamta churches bypass. The forest is stunning during the autumn and life full during the summer. However, you should know that Gombori road is getting high on Gombori hill and the road is very curved so in winters You really need a good wheels and experienced driver, it also maybe closed due to high probability of avalanche

We drove through the pass on the way to Telavi from Tbilisi but only stoped on the way back and I’m really glad we did. The views were stunning along the whole drive but at this spot there is a quaint coffee hut and a path up the nearby mountain that I walked up with my 5 year old. The view was worth it all!
