I am a solo female traveller. I travelled to Tierradentro from San Agustin. I took a midday colectivo to Ipiales (1 hr) then the 2pm bus to La Plata, arriving at 5pm. I was advised not to take the 6:30pm jeep to Tierradentro as the road isn't 100% safe in the dark. I found a pleasant hotel in the centre... More

We came from San Agustin. It took us five and a half hours by rental car. The first two hours were okay, but the the nice asphalt road disappeared and traveling became very slow. We had a few ,tumbles, ,reductores, and potholes, but managed to make it to La Plata. From there the first 30 minutes went fast with a... More

So happy that we decided to make the effort to get over the mountains out to San Andrés de PIsimbalá to visit Tierradentro. The sites themselves are amazing with a wide variety of excavations, depths, stairwells, paintings, statues and carvings to see. The wardens and museum staff are delightful and super helpful (you will need basic Español). The hike around... More

Really glad we made it here even though it is quite a trek (we got the direct bus from Popayan at 10.30 am; it takes about 5 hours). We stayed in San Andres and on the first day just visited one site near there - El Tablón, which has a few statues similar to those in San Agustín. The next... More

I think that Tierradentro is must see in Colombia. It will take you two days to do everything (both directions), although you can do it in one day, but why? You can also rent a horses for 7.000,00 cop for hour and use them on one side of arheological site. On the other side horses cant go (the rough one... More

Most of what can be said about this wonderful and fascinating spot has already been said. The tombs are fascinating and the scenery is wonderful. As older travellers in our late 60s we Wanted to share our experience and offer some tips for all ages too. We caught the 10.30 am bus from Popayan run by Sotracauca which is the... More

Most of what can be said about the wonderful experience of both the tombs and the scenery has been said but we have perhaps a few tips for older visitors (we are in our late 60s). We went from Popayan and stayed one night at the Hospedaje Portada in San Andres. About half the road is paved but it is... More

they are now working on the road, so the trip there can be a bit grueling, but once the road is done it will be much easier, but still a long trip. worth the trip though

Absolutely amazing place! I decided to go because the tombs sounded interesting, but the highlight for me were the landscapes. Fantastic hiking around the park to the archeological sites. I stayed in San Andrés, a bit tricky to get to if you don't get the one direct bus per day from Popayán, I ended up sharing a cab from the... More

This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. There are unique tombs, which were sculpted underground. It really worth the long trip.
