This place is a goldmine for railway historians. I will try to cover different aspects of the museum.
1. Engines - many engines are in working condition but are not fired with any regularity. However, in season from October to March there is a very likelihood one or more will be fired every fortnight or so. Please call and check. Maybe make a plan keeping firing in mind.
2. Though Fairy Queen takes the queen's place but for me nostalgia was in finding 3 gems - Sahib, Sindh and Sultan - the engines that pulled the first train in India.
3. There are two more experiences that will give a joy to children and adults. Simulators for coach and steam engine. Worth doing it.
4. Do request and look for two saloons of bygone era. One made in 1921 (Edward VIII) and another one though made in 1969 but decorated with the far more old regalia.
5. Cafeteria is very basic but the person behind the counter was extremely nice, polite and helpful.
6. Approach by road is a little cumbersome but google maps guide perfectly.
It is just about 2 hours from Delhi by road or just 5 minutes from Rewari railway station on foot.
Highly recommended for those who love railways and steam engine era.

My husband and I visited the Loco Shed; tricky to get to but stick with it, it is well worth it. The men at the Museum/Loco Shed are so welcoming and passionate and shared their wealth of information with us. There is a video about the renovation and steam trains, very interesting, please watch. They show you around the steam trains and give fabulous snippets of info about them, there is also a special carriage with a renovated restaurant car for Edward, Prince of Wales, built in 1921. We went on a Sunday thinking that every Sunday they steam up a train, unfortunately not, so phone ahead and ask when the next train will be steamed up. Call Mr Ganpat on 9729531793

Steam Locomotives were once backbone of Indian Railways, now they have become its heritage. This museum is the idle place to take through that awesome heritage.
Location : Rewari City, around 10 km from Delhi-Jaipur Highway . Please take exit towards Rewari City
Distance: Around 50 km from Gurugram, 90 km from New Delhi Railway Station, 185 km from Jaipur
Entry Fee: Free
Place is quite well maintained, with a small garden. It has some of finest steam locomotives that were once backbone of Indian railways. These locomotives were named as Sahib, Singh, Sultan, Rewari King, Akbar, Angadh, Virat. Sahib, Singh & Sultan were one of the three most common locomotives used by Indian Railways for a very long period of time.
First ever steam engine known as Fairy Queen is the show stopper of all of them. It is one of oldest steam engine used way back in 1855 and even now it is kept in working condition. Its name has also been recorded in Guinness world book of records. Apart from locomotives, they have also kept on display old heritage compartments also.
Only drawback is that no guide or information is available for rich history of these coaches

A visit to Rewari Heritage Steam Loco shed is visiting our past. Located near platform no. 8 at Rewari station, it is a wonderful to see many Steam Locos which is part of our history. Fairy Queen an engine made in 1855 is oldest running Steam locomotive in the world and is worth seeing. A must visit place in Rewari.
