Excellent audio-visual is a must-see (located downstairs - we nearly missed it because it wasn't particularly clear where it was located). Great views from the top of the monument - if you can face the climb!

I was traveling with my two college-aged children, and we had just visited the Memorial Museum and were heading to Fort Douaumont when we see a large field of crosses. There were other cars that had pulled over on the side of the road, so...More

This was an absolute privilege to visit. Not only is the place beautiful and clean but the amount of respect that is portrayed here is unbelievable. Everything is well kept and tidy and there are candles to purchase inside should you wish to light one...More

It's very difficult to comprehend the scale of death and destruction that you see when visiting the Verdun battlefield area. The destroyed villages give you a sense of the destruction but it is the unimaginable number of deaths from the battle that provides the most...More

On a peaceful green slope, the unmistakably French memorial cannot but move any visitor. The rows of graves spread outwards over what would have been a destroyed land during the battle for Verdun. Worth noting the 500+ graves to Muslim soldiers from the French empire...More

As a shock factor, this monument is rated pretty high. There is an interesting video that explains some of the reasons for so many un-buried casualties of WWI. It's just not really my thing.

The monument is a paradox. On one hand the grounds are immaculate, the architecture magnificent and it is a place of peace, beauty and tranquility. On the other hand this rose rises from the mud and ashes of a senseless war. Over 130,000 soldiers have...More

A must see when you visit the battlefield of Verdun! The remains of more than 130 000 unknown soldiers of the great war are resting in this Ossuaire where you can alco climb the tower to have a look over the battlefield.

This monument really makes you think about the meaninglessness of war and of the many young lives lost from different countries. Most of the soldiers that were killed were in their twenties and they never got a chance to experience life and happyness. If you...More

I totally loved this place though the theme is grim. The building is an architectional pearl - solemn and beautiful in art nouveau style. The view through the lower windows where you can see all the bones make sure that you remember the harshness of...More
