We hadn't read reviews before hand so weren't really geared up for hiking. But it is worth it and is a lovely hour or so hike up to and through the chateaux. Go through Gorge de galamus on the way for a spectacular drive.

The car journey up is a real trek, when you think you've missed it keep going it is there and is worth the visit. Once you've parked there is a real hike up to the castle, over mountainous terrain and the Castle itself has lots of steps and uneven floors. However, if you can manage the walk and terrain it... This castle is out of this world as well as the highest in the Pyrenees. Long winding road takes you just about to the top! €5.00 for adults to get in, well worn path takes you to the castle site. Not to be missed, breathtaking views. Good footwear essential, worth taking a drink and don't forget your camera. Enjoy, fabulous.

The drive up to the car park is fairly hair raising - very steep and narrow with tight hairpin bends. The view from the car park is fantastic and things only get better the higher you go. The admission fee for two adults with audioguides was €17 which I thought quite reasonable. There is a 15 minute walk over quite... More

A demanding drive followed by a strenuous walk/clamber bring you to an incredible castle set on the very top of a mountain ridge. The views are stunning. How did they manage to build in such a location?! The walk round the ridge requires good footwear and takes about 15 minutes but it is worth the effort.

The drive up is rather hair raising especially the last few hairpin bends. However it was well worth it for the views from the top. You do need decent shoes to do the climb up. We hired the audio guide as we knew very little about the Catharsis and it was well worth it.

A short (15ish minutes) but not undemanding walk from the carpark and entrance up a rocky path....... However for the spectacular panoramic views alone it is absolutely worth the effort! Good foot wear is advisable. The most complete part of the castle is the lower part, but be sure to continue further along the rocky ledge, and higher, to the... More

Totally awesome views from an ancient Cathar castle perched so high on a razor edge of rock that it seems you might cut yourself. Wear good shoes, take your camera, use sunscreen. Audio guides are available to hire - several languages. There's a shady bench part-way up the walk to the first entrance to the castle. Not many facilities; toilets,... More

Beautiful and unspoiled - a really great treat. Don't expect a cafe beyond a vending machine or any paths suitable for heels, wheelchairs or pushchairs. The only way to see this is by a beautiful mini trek up the mountain. Not to be missed.
