About
New Jerusalem State Museum of History and Art (also known as the New Jerusalem Museum) is one of the largest regional museums associated with the unique monument of the Moscow region - Resurrection New Jerusalem Monastery. The Museum’s Collection includes more than 190 thousand objects despite the huge losses as a result of World War II. It encompasses a collection of archaeological and ethnographic material, Russian and foreign art materials from different eras (icon painting, fabrics, paintings, graphics, decorative art 16th-21st centuries etc.), rare books, coins, weapons. The Museum’s collection also includes unique exhibits that are directly associated with the history of the New Jerusalem Monastery and the personality of its founder - the sixth Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Nikon. Since its foundation in 1920 our museum had been located within the walls of the New Jerusalem Monastery, in 2013 the Museum moved to a new building on the opposite coast of the Istra river.

A favorite museum with vibrant theatrical exhibitions. We come here for every temporary exhibition, which always takes place in an unusual format. Excellent reconnaissance, competent and complete etiquette, thoughtful exhibits, united by a single concept - all allow you to fully enjoy the art. And light! It's always on display. The halls with permanent display are also good. But temporary exhibitions are always astonishing in rare cases, about which you want to talk to friends and read-read-read.

When someone is interested in old Russian church architecture they usually go to the "must see" sites around the Golden Ring. In fact many very interesting and much less crowded placed are not that far from Moscow. One example is the New Jerusalem monastry which is located about 2 km from the museum. It offers great views and has liberal staff who allows you to explore the monastery and take pictures from every corner.

🇬🇧 A very badly organised museum. Electronic tickets do not allow to cut the queue. Spent 30 minutes waiting outside and did not even get a chance to see the Marc Chagal exhibition as there were too many people queueing inside as well. Do not recommend. 🇷🇺 НЕ ХОДИТЕ В ПРАЗДНИКИ, УЖАСНАЯ ОРГАНИЗАЦИЯ.

The new Jerusalem Museum of History, Architecture and Art is an amazing new museum that captures the history, agriculture, architecture and arts of the Middle east region. I was mainly surprise since I thought most of the expositions would be from the Biblical area and above but to my surprise, many of the items on display predate Biblical times, in a very concise and eye-opening manner.

The museum is divided into different areas according to your interest. The price is a bit above the average but it's worth any penny.

One day I will come back with my kids as I believe it will be for the benefit of their education and moreover, even expand their horizons.

If you are in Istra, then this is a MUST to visit. Especially if you are interested in historical things. This museum includes not just the exibition of Faberge. It shows also historical church pictures and paintings form the Russian Avantgarde.

Novy Ierusalem or New Jerusalem was founded by Patriarch Nikon at 1656 as a copy of Holy Land near Moscow.
The most impressive edifices of the complex are the Voskresensky Cathedral and a temple of Konstantine and Elena both the parts of a New Jerusalem Monastery.
The Voskresensky Cathedral was built using sketches of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem (in Palestine). The ceramic ornaments was made in 17th century by famous masters of that time.
You can feel the difference - the work of ancient masters and a new made work. Sadly a contemporary work is far away from the Art.
But you can go to Jordan (river Istra near this place)

I was there as volunteer in 2019. That was a great opportunity to visit Shagal's exhibition for free. Qute place.

P.S. I took March 2022 as a visit date because TripAdvisor didn't give me other choice. Please fix it.
