We visited from Australia primarily to see the 'Cygnet' which is part of our family history. Captain George Peacock was a great man who invented the screw propellor, proposed a route for the Panama canal and had many other achievements which went largely unrecognised. The museum has a great collection of documents and artefacts which demonstrate his achievements. They also... More

Very interesting small museum with a variety of exhibits - with an emphasis on ship-building. Good way to learn more about the area and how people lived. Being an American it was interesting to learn about the ship HMS Terror. And one can see the nightgown that Vivien Leigh wore in the film Gone With the Wind as well as... More

There is good local history very well presented here in a charming environment. A lot of museums these days feature 'interactive' displays - here you interact with enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers whose pride in Topsham's history and its museum reminded me of the kind of experience you get from visiting National Trust properties. Well worth a visit!

They can provide activity sheets for kids. The volunteers are friendly and knowledgable. Highlights include the giant salmon and the original night dress worn by Vivien Leigh in... More

Delightful museum. Set in a very pretty village. Interesting nautical artefacts / boats and some nicely reconstructed rooms of the house. There is also a good tea room which serves excellent cream teas.

The museum is certainly with a visit, it tells of a proud history and is very interesting. Be sure to check the opening times so you don't miss out. There's also a lovely café and garden to sit in.
