Very nice museum in a kind of castle. Family ticket for 4 people for EUR 10, we were duly informed of this by the cashier.
Material is in English and Slovenian, everywhere in the wuseum it is bilingual. Lots of information about this region and its history, which also includes part of the Second World War.
Museum is also accessible for wheelchairs, there is an elevator. There is also a toilet available, and during the visit you can find a table for the kids to color. There is also a guestbook where you can leave something.
Beautiful ceiling paintings that you should definitely see. If you're in the area, definitely grab it. When you return, you can have a cup of coffee further down the street, or get some ice cream. There are 2 EV chargers in the street (and side street), free to use at the moment (Aug 2023).

The Posavje museum is the historical museum of Brezice, a town in the East of Slovenia. It is located inside the castle of the town and here you can learn about the history of the zone and the country, especially in the 2nd World Wars, so it is very interesting to know the present day. Also, there is a wonderful room, "knights room, which you can visit. Very interesting.

We stopped here on our way from Zagreb to Ljubljana and were VERY glad we did. This is about as low-key of a museum as you can get - I think if we had asked her to, the woman who sold us the tickets at the entrance would have happily taken us around as a personal guide! For a regional museum, they have a phenomenal collection of art and history going from the Iron Age through the Romans, and 19th century regional displays. For me, personally, though, my favorite was the displays on the region during World War II. In the States, most of what is taught about the War revolves around British, Russian, and American perspectives with European theatres like Norway and Yugoslavia as more of an afterthought. For instance, with as much history as I have been exposed to, I genuinely had no idea about the thousands of Slovenians who had been uprooted and relocated to German work camps. Quite fascinating! Oh! And the Knights Hall quite literally takes your breath away!
One other great aspect of the museum is that there was ample postings in English, so if you don't speak Slovenian, you were never at a loss as to what was being discussed.
As this was our very first stop on our visit to Slovenia, it really was a neat introduction.

Brežice, a small town with medieval scent is worth a visit. The most dominant building in the town is a renaissance castle, transformed in a museum. It is more than just local museum with different collections, from enography to history. A kind of surprise is rich art gallery in the same building. Best of all is so called Knight’s hall. It is large hall with frescoes from the floor to the ceiling. Antique gods, nymphs, self- portrait, birds; you need a guide to explain all. You can see similar frescoes on the main staircase and in the small chapel. Entrance fee is not high. You have free parking in the afternoon and on Sundays and several bars for refreshments some steps from the castle. You can visit water tower in the middle of the settlement, too. You will find some signs with English, Slovene and German descriptions.

There are many different exhibitions in this museum and that makes it a lot of fun even for children as everyone can find something that appeals to them. The exhibitions are informative and comprehensive and the castle the museum is stationed in is an exhibit in itself, especially the Knights' Hall with its baroque frescoes. Worth a visit!

A local museum based in the castle covering over 2000 years of history. Well worth a visit - especially to the the frescoed Knights' Hall.

Am quite intrigued by what I have seen of the collection and I think the museum will be on our list to visit. Is there an English-language guide that we can obtain? I have been to smaller museums in the past that were only in the local language which I didn't speak and was quite frustrated as I wanted to know more about what we were looking at.
Thanks!
