Hidden gem. World so unlike ours. One of dedication to others and to contemplation. A key pillar of Quebec society. Oh and free. A cafe appeared to offer quick means or snacks.

The monastery is beautiful in itself but the history of the place and the work of the nuns is fantastic. Do not miss going to the museum at the monastery.

Not only do they have rooms to stay here, but they also have a very interesting museum. We did a guided tour of the museum and were the only two people on the tour. Very enjoyable. We also ate lunch there which was very good.

I came on my own, over my birthday, to reflect and rest. Le Monastère was a perfect place to do that and think about the year to come. I hope to be able to return every year.

I stayed in an authentic room which was lovely and simple. I only wished the windows opened. The shared bathrooms were spacious, clean and always available.

The food was quite good but not excellent. I was there at the tail end of the winter menu.

Très belle expérience! Nous avons fait la visite guidée de 60 minutes. Notre guide, Anne, était excellente, merci encore!
Would definitely suggest this activity, the guided tour is worth it, there is so much to learn. Great activity for a rainy day, or a sunny day, great experience all around.

I am not a fan of talking in the morning, so I particularly loved that they observe silence during breakfast. The breakfast buffet consisted of a small number (but plenty!) of delicious vegetarian items. The coffee was very good too and the service was friendly.
The small museum there was interesting. I recommend it for those interested in medical history and/or convent life. Be sure to venture outside to the central courtyard to see the charming garden of healing herbs and plants. It was great to learn about the medicinal uses for each.
The overall setting of the property was quite lovely and peaceful.

Enjoyed all the old this monastere had to offer. I had a massage here - one of the best I've ever had. We had lunch here - wonderful lunch.

We booked the authentic room. Two twin beds with the best pillows ever , which I think you can buy in the shop. So comfy. I slept better than ever here.
The facilities are spotless and for my friend and I we had everything we needed.
There was a sink and towels in out room and outlet for hair tools. There is a blow drier in the shared bathrooms. It was basically like having my own bathroom with a large shower with locked door.
The staff was friendly and accommodating and very helpful in terms of where to get something to eat, arranging transportation etc.

I did the guided tour with Rachel and loved it. She is an incredible guide that knows what she is talking about and she is also interesting. We were a small group, only 4, and we were all very interested about the subject. Since we were asking many questions, the tour lasted 90 instead of 60 minutes. We never got the impression that she wanted to cut us off, on the contrary she offered us to take us to another place if we had time. I highly recommend this visit.

Our tour guide, Rachel, transported us back in time to 1630 when a few plucky Augustine nuns in their early 20's traveled by ship from France to frozen Quebec with the mandate of starting a hospital. The hospital, Hotel de Dieu, is still operational, and the story of the nuns and their impact on the lives of the Quebecois was nothing short of astonishing. The museum, which houses their extensive collection of medical instruments and memorabilia, is first-rate, and the building itself is worth touring. I'd love go back and stay in the new hotel which has opened in part of the former convent.
