Fontaine de la Place d'Armes is a large monument that dominates the square around it. It is a gothic-style monument to Faith. Quite majestic and beautiful.

Lovely quiet square dominated by the fountain, with the Holy Trinity Cathedral off to one side.
When we were there, a few artisans were selling their wares.

The monument is ironically dedicated to peace. It incorporates a fountain. It is partially treed. There are many benches for those wanting a rest. It is situated between the Chateau Frontenac and the tourist information building. Due to its location it tends to be fairly busy.

So interesting to me as I grew up in Southern California and nothing is really what I call old, maybe some of the missions. This statues here are just beautiful.

Fontaine de la Place d'Armes located in Upper Town of Quebec opposite to Hotel Frontenac is a fountain within a small park there. It has historical story behind but the place is good for people to sit down relaxing after long walks. The Information Center is just opposite to the park.

Place d'Armes' one attraction is a most original fountain. Set in a 2 tiered round basin filled with water is a white sculpture resembling a Gothic church complete with buttresses, several arched Gothic doors, tall slim towers, and a square "bell" tower. On top of this huge structure is a contrasting dark bronze statue of a female religious figure - a Recollect missionary, most likely, as the monument was erected to commemorate their 300th anniversary in Quebec City since 1615. The water in the fountain is not very noticeable so it looks more like a monumental statue. Get up close to see the water spouting quietly into the basins from gargoyles at the base of the towers. Really, just a photo stop. The fountain is in excellent condition considering it is over 100 years old.

In Fall, the square was still nicely shaded with benches available for resting. This city square is near attractions such as the Fort Museum, the Notre Dame Basilica, the Anglican Holy Trinity Cathedral, and Rue du Tresor. I used the park as a location marker for them.
.
Place d'Armes is located across the street from Chateau Frontenac at the corner of Rue St.Louis and Fort Street. It takes up 1 city block.

This is not much of a fountain, not even approaching Fontaine de Tourny outside Hotel du Parlement. It is more like a statue on top of a baqoque structure in the middle of a pool of water. It is an interesting photo op nonetheless. Just don't think of it as a fountain.

In the immediate vicinity of the Church of the Holy Trinity lies the Place d'Armes; the historical meeting place for militia and a place to drill (since 1640). It wasn't until 1865 that this "place" became a little park with a basin in the middle.

The huge monument shows an allegorical figure holding a cross and palm frond on top of a pedestal surrounded by buttressed pillars and a church. It is a Gothic fountain/monument (the fountain is really a series of pools and not so much like a spouting water type of fountain).

This 1915 creation bears the name "de la Foi" (translates roughly to: of the faith).

Adjacent to the park and the church is a campy little lane of tourist-y, transitory, quasi-shops called "Artisans de la Cathedrale." Sadly, this does nothing to enhance the appeal of the park or the church; it's just an eyesore (but apparently legal).
